cept for Hermey. He was in Colt mode today! I won't miss tully when he's gone.
I never saw Colt whiff on a tackle like I saw hermanson whiff on the qb on that first qb run in the fourth quarter....in fact I've never seen anyone whiff that bad....other than that, solid game.

anderson whiffed frequently and spectacularly.

Anderson was nowhere in the Hauck, McElmurray, Erickson, Huntsberger level of sure-tackleness, IMO, but he was head and shoulders above Hermanson. Hermanson made 1 incredible tackle today. Huntsberger, I think, did the same thing at NAU and took it for a TD. The only other similarly stolen ball I can remember. It was Hermanson's best tackle of his career by far, but he's very rarely lit anyone up. Colt would occasionally whiff going for the big stick, but his big hits would often make a big impact and probably prevented many catches cause receivers bailed out. Hermanson will whiff on easy tackles (frequently and sepctaularly) and no receiver is scared going over the middle against us. You can't honestly consider the two on a similar level unless you are clueless (or Hermanson's mom).

Hermie made multiple good tackles today, and had at least 2 or maybe 3 crushing tackles. 14 total tackles; 10 solo. More solos than any player on the field. Harris had 9 solos and 11 total. Didn't realize he had such a big game. Wish he'd made one after a short pass earlier in the game.

Saffron might be dead
. Saffron reminds me of the energizer bunny, takes a licken (or 2) and keeps on ticken
That dude is tuff!

I thought he was more elusive today than the EWU qb. Maybe not as good of a runner, but more elusive.

Didn't Phlugrad lose to Sac his last season ? I'll take it. Shoulda been easier than it was tho. Seemed like a lot of big hits today along with some bad whiffs. I agree that Saffron is one tough dude. Not sure he should have been out there after the second one. JJ is THE MAN in the clutch. Please blow out SD and Weber. The Cats looked like crap today too. Very very beatable IMO.

Safeties often get credit for a lot of meaningless (RB powers through the line and dives forward and no one actually touches him) tackles. One of Hermanson's 2 "crushing tackles", that Grady Bennett went off on complimenting Hermanson for some reason, the guy gained another 3 yards after contact. That doesn't impress me. He did have a rare decent game, and improvement is evident in him, but the question remains:when is the last time the Griz had a worse Safety combo than Hermanson and Tully? I have only been watching Griz football for 25 years, so maybe you old farts can remember a worse combo, but I can't.

best open field tackler for montana....he whiffed himself right on into the pros...so are you saying hermey is also playing at that level?
dude.....i believe you are mixing your fruit....i believe it is not kosher.

Colt was not the "best open field tackler for montana", but deserves more credit than being cited for occasionally "whiffing". He was pretty-darn good, but anyone who would say this, obviously, never saw Tim Hauck play one game for the Griz. Tim was un-frickin-believable (better than any of you that never saw him can possibly comprehend). He must have missed a tackle in his career at some point, but I don't remember any. He was about as sure thing a tackler as there has ever been. He also produced a couple trainer visits to the field almost every game. He would completely obliterate ppl with big hits despite being the smallest guy on the field. He ended Michael Irvin's career with a devastating hit. He had 15 INTs (in 3 years) and blocked about 8 kicks in his career (4 in one year) for the Griz. He did it all. He was as good on defense as Dave Dickenson was on offense. Everyone seems to remember Dave (or reveres his legacy if they are too young), but far fewer seem to remember how good Timmy really was. He was as amazing.

McElmurray was WAY better than Colt. Credit Colt for sticking with it in the NFL (McElmurray made it in the NFL too, but didn't want to just play special teams and quit), but he is a distant 3rd or 4th or even 5th to Hauck, McElmurray, Huntsberger and, even, Erickson, IMO. Those guys dominated and made game-changing plays consistently. Hauck and Huntsberger were both 2x Defensive league MVPS. Colt never was once. Also Tim coached Colt at UM. Who's our secondary coach now? I honestly don't know and I'm not blaming him for our poor Safety-play per se, but wouldn't you rather have Tim coaching our Secondary? Something must have rubbed off on Colt that is missing now. Our secondary play has SUCKED since Tim left. Coincidence?

No, it's not true that safeties get credit for meaningless tackles. You obviously don't understand the game, and especially not secondary play. The earlier tacklers get credit for those tackles. Your statement is just plain dumb.

Hermie's hard tackle stopped the runner dead, and then the runner rolled off on fell down. Still a terrific and hard tackle. You obviously never played safety.

Hermie has been playing well all season.

The safeties have played fairly well this year.

Why don't you list all of the safety combos in the past 25 years who were better, and then we can respond.

I'm not jumping in the fray on Hermanson & Tully, but to answer your question to old farts...
In the late 1980's and early 1990's we had some very good teams with fairly solid defenses. Yet for several years it seemed when the opponent really needed yards, say a 3rd & 12, it was almost automatic that they could hit a 20 yard pass play for a first down.
