MSU Move to FBS

Appears the split is happening sooner than later …G5 might end up with their own division.

It was an argument that NDSU was able to become successful and make the move to the FBS through successful marketing, then Elrod came back that NDSU is the greatest Football dynasty in History and that is why they were successful in making the jump to the FBS and MWC. There is you connection.

At the risk of getting even more off topic, I figured I'd chime in here.

As much as I love this dogpiling of NDSU, and as much as we (the Niners) got very lucky drafting Brock Purdy, I really don't have much of an issue with the Lance pick, or the fact that they reached for him.

He played well in a timing-based, pro-style college offense that gave him a lot of control over the plays, and he had an extremely high (even if unreachable) ceiling. Long term in the NFL, the best QBs with very few exceptions consistently end up being the top drafted guys, or those who are later in the first round, but go to great situations. It sure seemed like Lance fit that bill, so I don't fault the Niners for going after what they thought could become a real top level guy.

In hindsight, it wasn't a great fit, and the small sample size against FCS competition should've been a bigger red flag, but there are very few sure things in the NFL outside of guys like Andrew Luck. None of the other guys who went in the 1st that year aside from Trevor Lawrence ended up warranting their draft spot, either.

Had we not lucked into Brock Purdy, it likely would've been a massive disaster, but that's the risk of trying to secure a top-5 NFL QB in the draft without losing 12+ games in a season.

That is terrific analysis on an NDSU QB bust. I can't disagree with any of it. Just FYI, the thread is now also about the best wings in the Missoula area (or the State, if you think some other place can measure up).

Oh I do , but I wonder if CDA realizes he pokes humor and fun due to a deep rooted frustration as a fan and living 30 years in the past where Montana was on top of the world .

I think deep down it bothers him that MSU has momentum building for an FBS move and Montana might be stuck playing in Cheney.

I guess the standards of what makes a "dynasty" are subjective in sports. I usually think of "Dynasty" in terms of a set of success in a given period of time. Yes, Alabama has more championships total. But a lot of theirs are WAY in the past.

If we compare their modern dynasties, then Alabama won 6 titles in 11 years from 2009 to 2020. NDSU won 10 titles in 13 years. But you are right that if we count all time championships, Alabama has more. I think we just have different definitions of a "dynasty."

If we are talking all activities at all levels, Loyola high school's run of speech and debate dominance is a contender.

Not to mention Bama's made up championships where some homer alabama beat writer "voted" them champs.
