What's so good about moving up?

It's true, not bragging. And I've talked to some of these people, and they don't want UM to move up. Think it would be unwise, if not outright reckless.
Because they are intelligent and understand the big picture. Successful people are not afraid to take risks - it's why they are successful. It is telling that you know many incredibly successful people who would advise against moving up.

I've been screaming this from the mountain top for years.

The risk of getting left behind is too great to ignore. And there's plenty of money at the FBS level to sustain the program

If your product is good enough, and I believe the UM product is plenty good enough based on many things, one being average attendance at home games, will you really get left behind? Only if they don’t accept change and grow.

Successful and intelligent people usually don't take big, unnecessary, expensive, etc. risks, especially when dealing with an organization like a public college. They take measured risks that have been studied, are well-thought out, and have adequate financing. I don't see UM and certainly not the Board of Regents taking this risk, at least anytime soon. Montana is right where it should be and where it can afford to be. The landscape of college football continues to change and evolve. UM has been following that closely for a few decades. And also getting their physical house in order.

Your last sentence is not what I said. I said I know some big Griz supporters and boosters who don't support moving up. However, I have not discussed this subject with some/many of them in the past few years.

I don't worry about UM being left behind. And, if UM can't afford to move up with enough money to be successful, then UM shouldn't move up.

How about our army of Nike, Boeing, Amazon, and Microsoft executives. How about the Pathlabs CEO? How about the CEO of Cole Myers? How about Hootsuite executives? Should I keep going?
So who from those companies? How many are Griz fans? I can think of 2.

Of course.

Why would those programs want to share their wealth?

All empirical evidence would suggest otherwise
Nope. What evidence being left behind? Posters on egriz saying it? It isn’t even known where things are going with football. Left behind from what or where?

The evidence is that there is NOT enough money in FBS to sustain the program. At least not in a successful way. And with revenue-sharing, NIL and buy-ins, moving up has gotten way more costly. The PAC-12 fell apart due. To lack of money, is nothing like it was, and doesn’t have a big media contract.

Of course.

I believe the college football model will continue to evolve, for better or worse. Within a few years, the non P4 conferences will be forced to expand their geographic footprints more strategically and look for stable, tradition-rich programs that can draw strong local followings without breaking budgets. I’m not worried about getting left behind, not right now.

The evidence is that the G6 is not going to split from the P4 to create a jv playoff. All these teams leaving the FCS like NDSU would just stay FCS if they wanted to play for something below the CFP. The only people talking of this split are from the FCS schools using it as an excuse to not currently move up like we are hearing from Haslam.

My impression is that the people on egriz talking split are mostly mover-uppers

The egriz crowd doesn’t know what they are talking about on this. I was referring to people in positions of influence talking about the split are only high ranking officials at FCS schools that don’t currently want to move up and are giving their fans this not going to happen split as an excuse to wait.

Name some of those.

Why would the G6 split from the P4? That would be stupid. Now the P4 on the other hand may definitely want to split from the G6. If your inside knowledge of no desired split is coming from a G6 school, say Colorado State for example, of course they're gonna want to do everything in their power to stay with the P4. Ultimately though, it's the P4's say. They hold all the leverage. Saying the G6 isn't splitting from the P4 is like me saying I'm not breaking up with my super hot girlfriend while she has nothing by contempt for me.

If the G6 gets locked out of the CFP by the P4, they will go back to playing for bowl games instead of creating a lower level playoff tournament.

This is literally one of the dumbest posts on the subject that I have read on eGriz, and that is impressive.
