What's so good about moving up?

Do you really think NDSU success is why they got the invite? I have no idea so just asking. I’m guessing it comes down to $$ just like everything else in college football.
If it just came down to $$ Pam State would have gotten the MWC invite which they did not. Money in combination with success and size of the brand is my guess.

After five of their best teams went to the PAC the MW was looking for stability and the Sac State president kept running his big mouth about SS going to the PAC. There was no way the MW was going to let Sac in just to see them run off the first chance they got. NDSU made it clear that they wanted a place in the MW and they weren’t trying to parlay it into something else…and they had the financial resources to join.

Ok, there's one, come up with about 10 more and we might have something. As I've said before, our army of realtors and lawyers ain't gonna cut it.
Bama I'm not saying you're wrong but there's an ex-attorney on this site daily who has bragged that he has more friends than anyone else on egriz and name-drops extremely successful people as his "friends" all of the time. Why can't that guy go get just ten of those friends and make a significant t financial impact on the Griz football program?

Are his friends that big of Griz fans? Or do you know a bunch of people willing to throw millions at something they care nothing about?

I don't think he's an ex-attorney. He's done a lot for Montana and Missoula, specifically. I would like to see more done to encourage corporate investment in Missoula

How about our army of Nike, Boeing, Amazon, and Microsoft executives. How about the Pathlabs CEO? How about the CEO of Cole Myers? How about Hootsuite executives? Should I keep going?

Yes, and then forward that list with 1000 signatures to the AD demanding his job if he doesn't move forward.

The downside in the big picture is what if the Griz get locked into the third tier of D1 football and don’t ever get invited or have the opportunity to “move up” even when there’s a second College Football Playoff for the non Power 5?

That’s on the table. It’s why NDSU didn’t just wait. They are betting that the $17 mil they paid will be a screaming deal in a few years.

I understand the finances are way more challenging. I just don’t have the stomach for watch the Griz beat Northern Colorado and Portland State annually forever more.
I've been screaming this from the mountain top for years.

The risk of getting left behind is too great to ignore. And there's plenty of money at the FBS level to sustain the program

It's true, not bragging. And I've talked to some of these people, and they don't want UM to move up. Think it would be unwise, if not outright reckless.
