New University president?

As I stated in a follow-up, I was just busting balls. I give them a hard time like I do everyone else, cops, attorneys, DMV employees, security guards, firemen, bankers, accountants, military, why discriminate. Also, as I stated, I tend to forget my audience. It's a personality flaw thanks to being in the military and law enforcement too long.
Do me! Do me! Equipment Maintenance.

Before I get into my rant about Osteopaths, I would agree with Engineering. There are Engineering degrees UM could offer that MSU and Tech don't.

UM wouldn't want to even try to compete with MSU's Mechanical or Computer Engineering Degrees. Those are both nationally ranked programs. That would be a waste of resources.

Tech has three of the best engineering programs in the nation in Petroleum& Mining Engineering, they are top ten in the nation in Electrical Engineering and one of thirteen Geological Engineering programs in the entire nation.

Between MSU and Montana Tech, both schools pretty much cover the Engineering gambit, but there are areas of engineering that UM could definitely specialize in.
  • Aerospace Engineering (I think UM should capitalize on this one).
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering (with the School of Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, and all of the specialized medical facilities in Missoula it would make sense)
  • Environmental Engineering (makes sense with the School of forestry)
  • Nuclear Engineering (neither MSU or MTech offer this and they don't need a nuclear reactor to study the discipline)
I agree with you on a Dental School as well, and I am very much a proponent of Engineering.

Now my rant.

Doctors of Osteopathy = Quacks, snake oil salesmen. I understand they take the same boards as M.D.s, but one is science and the other is new age crystals, skull massage, and magnets. I have more faith in WebMD than I do Osteopaths.

My mom is seeing an osteopath. This quack has her doing cranial sacral therapy, massages, infrared light therapy and no joke, MAGNETS, and meditation to treat her blind eye. She actually believes that garbage is going to restore her eyesight along with praying 8 times a day, because apparently 8 is some significant thing in the bible. Meanwhile, instead of listening to an ACTUAL doctor, having the eye removed, which would allow her brain to adjust, and strengthen her good eye she is throwing money at this voodoo priest.

I have more use for attorneys, but I put Osteopaths and Journalists on the same level of usefulness. Bring the hate...
What you are describing with your Mom sounds more like a Naturopath. I've seen both Naturopaths and Osteopaths (D.O.). DOs are based in the sciences, Naturopaths are based in the mystics. DOs are reputable and, IMO, Naturopaths are quacks.

MSU is building a nursing facility in the Medical Corridor near Intermountain/SCL in Billings. It only makes sense because of the number of nursing students they send here.
Carroll College has an engineering program as well. A friend of mine started at Carroll and transferred to MSU for 3rd and 4th years. He was amazed at how much harder it was at Carroll.
I took a full year physics course from a MSU professor in their Engineering Department and, not to brag but to show the academic level of UM students, scored the highest in the class. He was amazed at my academic prowess and kept trying to convince me to go to MSU for Engineering. I'm forever grateful I didn't.

Engineers are about to be AI'ed out of jobs. A quantum computer will be able to do the calculation to determine a roof's snow load and the appropriate material thickness, composition, and structural elements in about 0.000037th of a second.
Where was the AI when msu needed it?! Hahaha

No.

What you are referring to is called "computing" and it has been around for awhile now.

Speed isn't the goal in engineering. Getting it right is. The only thing AI has shown is that it can't be trusted with fine detail and will require human oversight for validation, QC, moral, and ethical reasons, and then some. And it should always be that way.

AI is just another form of the last mile problem.

But, by all means, let the thing that cant figure out how many fingers go on a hand design critical infrastructure.

Man, that's a good one. I have a ton for the trades, but equipment maintenance is a tough one. They are sort of jacks of all trades and masters of none, so most of my really good insults wouldn't apply. I have a lot of fun trolling myself and my current/former professions. Most of the trades guys I know couldn't finish high school but they are great at finishing concrete and cabinets.

I want an evaluation as impressionist from sin.

Equipment maintenance personnel are parasites who leech off engineer incompetence. Building things that break is substandard but those who make money from this train wreck are like ticks on a possum. One shitty organism sucking another. Pathetic.

The real heroes are salvagers, recyclers, and disposers. They are well trained and respected.

I am beginning to wonder if MSU Engineering program is beginning to resemble an assembly line.

What was the full year physics class that you took?

An update on the UM President search webpage! Looks like they've begun reviewing applications!

Good morning, University of Montana. As the presidential search moves toward the application review phase, I want to share our progress.

I am pleased to report that the search is proceeding extremely well, with tremendous response from high-quality candidates who align well with the leadership profile. Applicants come from numerous states and a diversity of backgrounds, including many from other R1 institutions across the country.

Despite this search having an expedited timeline, response to our outreach has been comparable to the system’s recent more extended presidential searches. AGB Search’s excellent work paired with the exceptional reputation of UM has thus far resulted in a deep pool of outstanding prospects and we expect many more submissions in the coming days.

Engagement within the University community has been equally strong. We’ve received hundreds of survey responses through the University’s website and our listening sessions with key individuals and stakeholder groups has proved invaluable.

I want to thank you, the campus community, for your ongoing active participation in the search process. Your input is integral to a successful transition. Because this is an expedited search, for best consideration, please submit nominations or completed application materials as soon as possible. We will begin reviewing applications next week and I am confident that this process will result in identification of a leader befitting this outstanding institution.

Clayton Christian

Montana Commissioner of Higher Education
