University of Northern Colorado President Andy Feinstein announced today that he is stepping down from his role effective Aug. 1, 2026, concluding an almost eight-year presidency that has been marked by strategic growth and transformative milestones for the university. Under his leadership, UNC eliminated a longstanding structural deficit, stabilized enrollment and his strategic vision has significantly advanced Colorado’s healthcare landscape by championing the establishment of the state’s first public osteopathic medical college, the UNC College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNC COM), planned to open Fall of 2026. There is not one thing you could point to at UM that people would consider as innovative.

You're Feinstein's agent, aren't you.....

Newest update on the search. Looks like Christian is going to convene a small working group to help vet candidates. I hope Athletics has input in this process!

I’m pleased to report to you that AGB Search and I have begun reviewing application materials for the position of president and we are delighted to be considering such a strong and diverse talent pool.

One of this University’s great strengths is the team of committed administrators and faculty, staff, and student leaders who live and breathe this institution and know it from the inside out. To leverage this asset, I will convene a small working group whose members represent a variety of perspectives to assist in vetting and narrowing this field of exceptional candidates.

As we move forward, the themes that have emerged from your feedback give us clear direction: our next president must build on UM’s recent achievements while continuing to cultivate the university’s vibrant and distinctive campus culture. We are committed to ensuring that those who advance in this process reflect that vision and will be the right fit for our campus, for Missoula, and for the state of Montana. I am confident we are well positioned to do just that.

Nice update on the search here in this article! The search has drawn more than 60 applicants so far with more expected. The members of the working group have also been identified:
  • Community member and former Regent Joyce Dombrouski
  • Faculty Senate Chairperson Valerie Moody
  • Staff Senate President Dominic Beccari
  • Administration Representative John DeBoer (Vice President of Academic Affairs)
  • ASUM (Associated Students of the University of Montana) President Buddy Wilson
Valerie Moody is an athletic trainer for the Griz. So Athletics will have representation in the working group! Thank God!

I'll attach the article if anyone is interested!

They have officially selected their candidates to interview as of last night. I decided to apply and put my name in the hat and got the email last night that they have selected their candidates to interview. I was not one of them, no big surprise, it was a long shot.

Do we know how many they're interviewing? I know there's been over 65 applicants.

Don’t know the exact number but generally searches like this of this size will have about 10 that get an initial interview with the search company and committee and 3-4 for final interviews on campus and with BOR. Sometimes in expedited searches it will only be the 3-4 finalist interviews.
