BOTH Brawl Round 2!

I just can't believe how poor the talent in the league has become. Tonight's game was such a slog and was so boring, I started thinking of players over the last 10 years that would be better and more fun to watch than ANYONE in the conference currently. I came up with 73 players before I got bored of that, too, but I could've kept going for awhile.

Men's D1 basketball is just a bad product. They need to go to quarters. For those that think the portal has ruined other sports, hoops is No. 1 by a country mile.

And it shows. The number of people consuming our men's basketball content has never been lower. Women's golf out-paces men's hoops, let along football and women's basketball. It's stunning and sad.
The basketball highlight of last night's game was the highlight reel of the 2005-2006 Griz team that won the conference and a game at the ncaa tourney. The talent level was obviously different than the group we're watching this year. Even had a couple MT kids!

Last night's highlight was watching Money trying to keep his headband on!

Only could watch the women Griz, Yikes!! another blowout to the cats. They can beat average and below teams at times but lack of athleticism was evident again. Team has been out-coached, out recruited. Griz only scored 7 points in the first quarter which didn't help. The zone only works for a short time, a good coach has a zone offense, which the cats had.

The AD Dept needs to go, new blood, they let good coaches go, hire inexperienced coaches and expect to win championships.
The Cats were only +3 for the last 3 quarters against the LG. So honestly outside of the 1st quarter it was a pretry even game.

If the fans are frustrated with this years Griz team Travis and the staff have to deal with them everyday. Last years team, with the 9 transfers hit a home run and won the conference. This years transfer portal players are flat out not D1 material.
If the fans think this years team is disappointing wait until next year when Money and Sawyer are gone. The coaching staff has no one that I can see to build around.
Last years team was anchored by Branden Whitney. Goes to show how important a good point guard can be. That position was sadly lacking this year and I feel it definitely hurt Money’s performance. Sure, he leads the conference in scoring but his turnovers demonstrate he is not a good PG. Money’s assists are more accurate and spectacular in a motion offense rather than when he’s trying to be a PG.

Gotta be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of hiring Harris based on his tournament run. And nothing the ladies have done since has dispelled me of that.

They look frustratingly bad and disorganized a huge % of the time.

He’s going to have to show marked improvement next season or he’s going to be in trouble.
The Lady Griz right now are just awful and that is being kind. No leadership, no enthusiasm. The loss of Bartsch and Bruno is greater that anyone could have expected. They were the heart and soul of the team and have not been replaced to any degree. If I were Harris I would bench Konig for the rest of the year and play only underclassmen--nothing to lose as it can't get any worse. Decent players like Waddington and Ehrman are likely to transfer also.

Money’s never been a PG. he’s always been a better player when he plays off the ball. I think Kepley could become a good PG for us with more time, but he’s not there yet. I have to keep reminding myself that we have two freshmen and a sophomore in our starting lineup. The cats backcourt was two seniors that have been with the program for 4 years. I think these guys will be good players in the long run, but we’re paying for it right now.

Some of those guys are some of my good friends, so I am bias. But watching that montage, it's wild how much different and better the Big Sky used to be. And this is no one's fault except the institution of college basketball.

Would Jordan Hasquet and Kevin Criswell stay for four years now? I think so because they are from Montana. But what about Andrew Strait?

It's just so disheartening to know that all the players that should be great players in the Big Sky are instead playing in the big leagues.

Hell, Malik Moore was Montana's 3rd or 4th best player last year. He scored 18 points for Xavier at Madison Square Garden against St. John's a week or two ago. He's averaging 14 points per game in BIG EAST play.

Here's the stat sheet....stats don't lie https://gogriz.com/sports/womens-basketball/stats/2025/montana-st-/boxscore/6353 Bad 1st Qrt, cat's hitting it big time..dramticlly different game flow..we got demonstratively outplayed. Konig and Avery low scores, since Konig came back...displaced Avery into post play...that's not her game! Wacker didn't score, Land had 2 pts.

I'm not certain that the Big Sky champion could go on to win the NAIA National Championship...

That comes down to bad recruiting or lack of resources to properly recruit.

Yes, half talent, half coaching and recruiting and/or lack of resources to properly recruit. How many talented players in the state are leaving, If you hire inexperienced coaches this is what you get. Time for a overhaul with the AD Dept. I know UM and MSU did land her, the player from Frenchtown is going to Boise State as an example did UM try to recruit her. MUS is better coached, has more resources to recruit. I think the salary for the MSU coach is above 200K/year.

BSU is headed to the Pac 12. The days of keeping top talent in state are long gone. There will be exceptions but there are a lot of examples the past 4 or 5 yrs of top GBB talent moving to other opportunities.

Delusional. Many big impact NAIA guys are former D-1 bench warmers. The Big Sky has 4 top 180 and 2 top 160 division one basketball teams. The only evidence you’d have to cite here is the Griz losing a game where Tech has a fluke shooting night(14 3s on 50%) and the Griz are down arguably the second most impactful guy on our roster(Thompson). Play that game 100 times, Griz win 95.

Here’s what it looks like when the Griz were actual BSC champion quality in recent years, and played an NAIA:

‘18: vs Carroll, W, 86-75,
‘19: vs Tech, W, 79-55, vs College of Idaho, W, 80-52
‘24: vs MSU Northern, W, 91-67, vs Tech, W, 88-67
‘25: vs Tech, W, 89-60

6-0, 0 games within single digits, average MOV of 23 points.

As Tricia said in her post game, she brought in a steady bunch of subs. They out played us, with D, really good O team work and flow and basic athleticism. If the Cat's kept their main five in the game longer, the point spread would have been much larger.
