New Portal Window

There is a 5 day window.... But dont think any will leave
Isn't there a 15-day window that begins 5 days after the new coach is announced? So that means 5 days from today the portal opens and then closes 15 days following that. So that would be from the 10th to the 25th.

What does Tim have to do with 3/3/5?
A new DC could continue the 3-3-5 but if a new DC wants to change the scheme that could effect players wanting to stay because a lot of the defensive players on our roster like playing in the 3-3-5.

As much as I dislike the 3-3-5, Im actually hoping that the staff has more freedom to modify it and hybridize. More emphasis on heavy sets? Besides the obvious “they played in the system for the better part of a decade,” the ‘23 team was much more restrained in how they blitzed and applied extra pressure. They still brought a lot, but it wasn’t a zero blitz all the time like it has been the last few years. Having the latitude to modify the scheme while recruiting and transitioning might work out for the better.

Totally agree and the current personnel is built for the 3-3-5.

That's great for them but the 3-35 is a dinosaur defense. look at the teams that have won the NC lately. quick answer? None of them. Not a single national Championship team.

MSU- 4 man base/multiple
NDSU 4-2-5/hybrid
SDSU 4-3 base/multiple
Sam Houston 4-2-5
JMU 4-2-5
EWU 4-3 base/hybrid

Idk... it might be me, but I think I'd rather see the Griz establish a defense scheme that has proved it's dominance being run by multiple national championship teams. I'm not a football genius though. I just look at what has produced winning teams and non winning teams.

Okay you can argue that Illinois State almost won the Natty running a 3-3-5, but... they didn't.

It can be argued that it was the kickers fault, which it was, and not the defensive scheme.

I would argue had EIU been running a 4-2-5 they would have rolled MSU. We will never know.

It can be argued that the 3-3-5 is a great defense to run at the FCS level because we don't get the "elite" athletes necessary to run a successful 4-2-5. I would argue while that was true PRIOR to the establishment of the portal, it's not true now.

What I know is that the last fourteen national championship teams ran some type of 4-2/3 hybrid defense.

If the players we have now don't like it, there are other teams that run the 3-3-5 and they would probably more than welcome to play on those teams, like idk... Stoneybrook, North Dakota, Bill & Mary, EIU, Villanova, Northern Arizona, Richmond... You know, teams good enough to make deep runs but not actually good enough to take the hardware home.

Traditions? You mean the ones that have resulted in no national championships in 24 years, and only two conference championships in the last 14 years. It might just be me, but other than the #37 tradition, it seems like it's time for new traditions.

Hopefully Coach Kennedy starts new traditions that result in championships.
Even 37 has lost some of its impact, 2 back up linebackers wearing it within 2 of the last 3 has kinda made it less important.

If Hanks is healthy I think he would anchor the 3-3-5 and it will resemble the Gubner years.....

How many of the transfers, or even the freshman, were in school for the spring? 2 or 3? Most were not coming until summer anyway.
??

High school kids yes, need to graduate first and then will be here this summer.

The majority of our signed transfers are already enrolled at UM and participating in winter condo and spring. Like 20 of them.
