4th and 1

I don’t think it would’ve mattered any way. They were gonna need a FG at some point and with how sloppy the operation was he wouldn’t have made it from closer range. Hell he couldn’t even make an extra point with the game on the line.

but what? He loves to kick and hasn’t won a natty? Don’t know if he would have handled that differently. If I’m a betting man I’d wager the kicking unit would be on the field.
Our kicking unit is better. I don’t remember ever seeing a snap that poor as the field goal from the Griz.

In the second half I think ISU showed the 3-3-5 base defense can be effective overall against MSU when it creates chaos with different blitz packages. The defense was a lot better in the second half compared to the first.

This game illustrates how elite teams never have a huge gap in one if the 3 phases. Yes, ISU had 2 really sound phases, but the third lost them the game. However, I was disappointed they squandered the first 2 downs in that series with the straight up the middle bologna. They just squandered it away well before they trotted out the now famous kick team. I’ve never understood football well enough to know why the run up the middle is used so dang repetitively. Especially when it isn’t yielding too much result. If I’m running it in that series, I’m letting that QB go outside and see where his heart takes him 3 times. He seemed to be ready for that moment

They were trying to run some time off the clock and make msu use some timeouts. They had some success running the ball during the game as well so it made sense
