Formation doesn't matter for shit. You play the cards you were dealt. We didn't lose because we played 3-3-5. Any formation has to pick a poison; if I was playing MSU I'd have said pass and put 8 in the box, especially if I had Loud. Our DC (way smarter than me) decided to try to do both. That is their choice, but it wasn't pre snap formational. Watch the replay.

I don’t know the guys personal life, but we all just shared in getting humiliated for the second time this year and it’s a sign of things to come unless something drastic changes in the football program.

The scheme worked great in 23 with a good DC. Tim and Coop have been a disaster. Bobby won’t do anything about it of course, but that’s the problem.

He also had Gubner whose importance cannot be overstated

Tim needs to retire and Coop needs to go. Do you remember Coop having good defenses at ISU? I don’t. The 3-3-5 worked great when Bradford was DC, and boy are we missing him.

The real reason that the griz are playing the 3-3-5 defense is because it fits the way they coach and recruit. Great interior lineman are rarely ever recruited out of the portal. They are built in the weight room in the off season and developed within a program. Hauck and company have chosen to recruit the elite hybred athletes instead of developing young players. You can't just decide one day to play a 4-3 or a 4-2 and be successful. It is not an overnight fix if you decide to go to a four man front after recruiting hybred athletes. An interior lineman rotation takes time to develop.

Hauck was playing the 3-3-5 before NIL kicked in. I don’t buy the argument. Developing guys to play in a traditional defense in the era of NIL shouldn’t be impossible. How many good defensive players are on teams that had coaching changes or just want to play for a winning team? Lots. Bring them in. Recruit and keep building. Get a better strength coach. It isn’t rocket science. The Griz have a dang good reasons for kids to transfer.

For me, the bottom line is this …

UM lost to MSU twice this season. Both big games, one of them huge. I’m a big (old) enough guy to say congrats to the cats team (f*** your fans tho). UM needs to get stronger w the front five on both sides. That’s what’s holding this program back. If you don’t win in the trenches, you are likely going to lose when you reach the point of the final 8 or 4 elite teams. Where is the next JD Quinn? Kroy Biermann? Gubner? You have to have elite talent in the trenches to get the trophy. We haven’t had it. Huge props to the guys who tried to get it done. Great season.

Also, bc I hate cat fans and not their entire team …. Go Redbirds.

I don't buy into that mindset. Montana still offers enough, and will win enough under Bobby that they will still attract talented players.

Just not enough players to win the big games.

I would say any coach with the past 3 seasons would still be here.
