Just rewatched the play. The runner’s forward was most certainly stopped. He rolled back towards his own goal as he got up to his feet then went forward. You can’t get any more stopped than having to go backwards.

He was never tackled down nor stopped. This is why the whistle wasn't blown. Did his knee or elbow touch the ground?

But it was all within the motion of being tackled, which he was never down. Why would an official blow his whistle during a tackle? This was never a forward motion deal. He would have been better off holding he up to stop his motion than yanking him backwards and him rolling off like he did.

He was stopped, completely stopped, then rolled back towards his goal then went forward. Watch it again. His elbow touched as well but that is beside the point.

eh. it's one of those football plays you see from time to time. I dig it as that's part of the game.
And we got an absolutely awesome punt return and some other big TDs. I ain't mad about it.
The announcer, Acho I think, trying to talk forward momentum was silly.
The credit really belongs to #1 for SD that got his teammate to get up and then made a block. It was a good hustle play.
The way I see it, SD got a good many calls that went their way and the Griz STILL stomped a mudhole in them.

It most certainly was not all within the motion of being tackled… He stopped trying to advance it while the defender had a hold of him. Then the defender let go of him and he got up and then once the teammate told him to keep running, he did
It’s pretty hard to explain, but here goes: You know how some kids have blonde hair? Well, some of them don’t grow out of it and become men with blonde hair. It’s pretty uncommon, like a gene thing or something. Then, you know how some people have facial hair? Some of the men with blonde hair decide to grow facial hair, and it comes in blonde. It’s REALLY uncommon on account of how creepy it looks (suede jacket/windowless van stuff). There are more of these specimens per capita in Bozeman than anywhere else in the world.

That's what it looked like, his buddy said keep going because he was just standing there for a second before he kept running. We were in row 6. Replay at the stadium looked like only his palm was on the ground so technically he wasn't down. Post game they said coaches thought they heard the whistle and everyone on the field acted like it. I never heard it right behind the bench but it was loud.
Weird play for sure. In the stadium looked like his hand was down, but we only saw it once. Replay on television copy clearly shows his forearm hit the turf. On top of that he had clearly given himself up and the defender released him. His action of moving back towards their side of the LOS shows that. Don’t know how they screw that one up on replay. Also not sure how the officiating is so inconsistent across all games in this round. All we can hope for is a crew like the first brawl that lets the 2 best teams left play next week.
There was a lot of weird stuff in the second half today. The USD place kicker warming on the Griz half and trying to get in another kick after the ref told him to get back on their side. The choppiness and uneven nature of the calls. The pure lack of control the CAA refs showed they were out of their breadth for this type of matchup.

My wish list for next weekend in Bozeman-I’d like to see better tackling ALL four quarters, Griz don’t turn the ball over, get our playmakers the ball & limited/very few Griz penalties.

Yup. It was a clown car show act.
My issue isn’t so much with any individual bad call or play. It’s the fact that if we HADN’T been boat racing them, those plays can turn the tide and change the actual outcome. Fortunately for us we had a 25 point lead and that wasn’t going to happen. But when it DOES impact the outcome, it won’t be just “one of those plays you see from time to time”…
So it LOOKS kinda odd and creepy rather than really meaning something? Okay, I think I understand now. Thanks CDA! Glad I don't have to go to whatever reward I deserve without knowing that. Just one more thing to keep in mind as I surf the expanse of humanity. Right up there with people with six toes and fingers or little kids with alien eyes.

The official on the ABC telecast said his forearm was down and his forward progress had been stopped. He was exasperated with the call on the field and the call after the review. Are you telling us you know more than an official with 40+ years of experience officiating at the college level?

When a runner is stopped moving forward but neither their knee or elbow or any part of their body other than their feet touch the ground, are they NOT down?
I remember a play earlier this year where the Griz runner was stopped, no whistle had been blown, and the Griz runner broke loose from the scrum and continued to run down the field but the officials brought it back saying, despite no whistle being blown, the runner's forward momentum had been stopped.
