Let's be real, any move to support students is a step in the right direction and the lack of finances that makes all the improvements impossible to complete on your timeline doesn't mean they don't really care.

I don't know what UM has for those facilities that were mentioned, nor do I know the law and practice.

The University of Oregon is facing a landmark federal class-action Title IX lawsuit (Schroeder v. University of Oregon) filed by female beach volleyball and rowing athletes. The suit alleges systemic gender discrimination, unequal financial aid, and—notably—disparate Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) benefits facilitated by the school. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Men's basketball had the second-highest expenses ($3,497,311) and revenues ($1,578,277) in the department but ended with the largest negative margin ($1,919,034). Women's basketball had the second-largest deficit ($1,113,094) and ranked third in expenses ($2,289,658)

UM had an increase of $395,223 in support staff and administration compensation paid by the university and third parties. The total of $4,607,112 marked a program record after a prior high of $4,211,889 in FY 2024.

Every school in America is running their track and soccer programs at a loss. Football (and men's basketball at some schools) is the money maker for the entire AD. That's not an excuse for the UM athletic department to continually neglect the soccer and track facilities like they have.

I get that people are unhappy with the facilities and wanting to knock the AD for it, but for those bitching about it, why don’t you put your money where your mouth is? Or if you can’t afford to help, reach out to somebody who may be able to.

You can always email Haslam as well. If there’s one thing you can say about him it’s that he’s great at responding to emails. Perhaps he’d be willing to shed some light on all the issues mentioned here.

If I gave money, can I be unhappy with the bubble? Is there a threshold amount I had or have to give? Does supporting academics or, say, a sport other than football entitle one to be unhappy? I’m just trying to learn the rules here…

10% is something especially when athlete student aid increased by 10% and athlete nutrition increased by over 10% from the previous year.
