South Dakota State Jackrabbits scouting report

Almost no Griz thought the USC guy would start over Ah Yat. At least no Griz poster who understood football or had any contacts with the program. You are just taking stuff said by a few people, some of whom are idiots, and making big deal of them. For example, I never said any of those things. Why don't you look at what the top dozen or so good and frequent Griz pointers said?
This is a great post. All of the cat trolls and the majority of cat posters over on litter box nation do this all the time. They take one thing said on Twitter by Griz fan or one thing said on this site by Griz fan and they extrapolate it to the entire Griz fan base. There’s so many examples of it over there.

Yes, griz fans NEVER lump all Cat fans together.... :ROFLMAO:

Here's one from Egriz: SDSU sucks. They're over rated. Bad. A horrible Cat loss. And then they get into the playoffs, get healthy, boat race New Hampshire and suddenly they're a great team! Karma's coming.....

Great stuff Brint!

I would add a few players to watch for us. You mentioned Ripperda but our best defensive linemen are DT Logan Green (#51) and DT/DE Kobe Klayborne (#94). Green is mostly a run stopper that is also a decent pass rusher, he's going to need to come up big if the Jacks want to contain Gillman. Lately Klayborne lines up at DE more but his normal position is DT, though he's undersized at 6'0" he is very disruptive from either position (first team all-MVFC).

On offense I'd also look out for RB Josiah Johnson (#34) & WR Jack Smith (#19). Johnson is a true freshmen who didn't even see the field until the Murray State game, but he quickly became a fan favorite in Brookings because he's a very hard runner that's not easy to bring down. He's also pretty good at picking up blitzers, and he's had a few impressive blocks where he really laid the wood to a LB. We will need more of that against Montana's blitzing style. Smith isn't nearly as explosive as Wortham but we like to use him in the same sort of ways, lining him up in the slot or out wide, or even in the backfield. He's a pretty decent kick returner too.

Another thing to look out for when we're on offense, is in the last two games we have been having our offensive linemen switch sides depending on which play we are running. I've never seen anything like it any level, but it's been working. UND has the top ranked rush D in the MVFC and we ran for over 200 yards against them, and had more success with it last week as well. I'm sure the two games have shown plenty of tendencies that your coaches have picked up on, I'm also sure we have some plays ready to go to counter those. Could be a fun chess match.

I'm worried about how we contain Wortham when we kick off. I'm hoping we can just boot the ball through the end zone, because in the couple games I've watched it looks like he's not afraid to return it from a few yards into the end zone and I'd prefer to not give him any chances. Our punter Max Pelham is maybe the best in the country, he averages 48.7 yards per punt with very good hang time. He and the coverage unit did an excellent job containing Taco Dowler when we played MSU earlier this year, I'm optimistic we can do the same this weekend.
If there was one player who won the game earlier this year in Bozeman, it was definitely your punter. What a freaking stud. He flipped the field with ease. Definitely hated you all for it lol.

Paraphrase and contextualize all you want, but just be honest. You tailored your whole offense because he was a RB taking snaps. Still one of the most impressive players in Big Sky history.

Yes your program was willing to beat the hell out of guys to the detriment of their future. Anderson 18, 19, 21, Ifanse in 21, Tommy in 22-23. Do you think the griz would be better off if we ran Gilman 30 times a game instead of splitting reps with 2 other backs the last couple years? Has he stayed healthy? Has Vigen starting in 2024 made a choice to not lean so heavily on one individual, yes. Has that made you a better and healthier team come playoff time, yes.

I didn’t state Lamson dropped out of the sky or that the cats were lucky. I acknowledged he’s been great, but merely stated he was committed to an FBS program and if it weren’t for a clerical issue, he wouldn’t be there. He is clearly an FBS talent, and maybe you guys would be better because your backups are better than starters anyways. Who knows? When was the last time you guys had a QB with a performance like that in WaGriz from a QB? Lulay when he ended the streak? Not sure his 2 performances were better than what we saw from Lamson 2 weeks ago.

As hoops stated, where did anyone claim a USC transfer that was never better than 3rd string was going to come wreck the league. We knew QB was an unknown heading into the season and most of the fanbase knew what was going to happen heading into the season after last year and KAY’s injury in spring ball and Jensen looking serviceable. There was a lot of shakiness early in camp from both as well.

You also understand why we think you guys are absolutely delusional the way you trip on your d!#%s about things.
Tommy took a lot of unnecessary punishment by not running out of bounds or sliding. The coaches harped on that endlessly. Last year he seemed to learn the lesson. Just a really tough kid who sometimes tried to do too much himself. Matured a lot last year and got us back to the chipper and had himself one hell of a game. Troy was all we had back in the Choate years....the QB room was sorry. So, not on the coaches. They wanted Tommy to throw the ball and run out of bounds. We watched him get an earful from coaches about not taking the hits almost every game.

He did also allow the game to go into overtime when he whiffed on the punt that yoy returned for a TD late in the 4th. I think his heel might've gotten clipped to cause that whiff though. But yeah otherwise he was the MVP of that game IMO.

Hoping that a) he's not needed in this game, or b) he can repeat his performance in Bozeman (minus the whiff of course).

Made it to Missoula, checked into the hotel and relaxing for a bit. Any recommendations for places to go to tonight?
If you're downtown and looking for dinner: Tamarack Brewery (crowd pleaser), Iron Horse, Biga Pizza.

Beers/Bars: Red's Bar, Meagher Bar, Iron Horse, Missoula Club

For breakfast: Would recommend a breakfast burrito (or two) from The Market on Front.

Everything is going to be pretty busy with it being Friday night..

Also welcome!! Here's to a great game tomorrow!
