South Dakota State Jackrabbits scouting report

That report this time doesn't give me a warm fuzzy...I believe to win this game; Eli will have to rush for a ton of yards! The TE's have to be involved in the passing game! I will be in my regular seat as normal even with the crappy weather. I think Griz win this by 11.
You think bad weather favors the Griz?

In Bobby 2.0 after regular season byes, he is 3-3
2018 Loss vs. UC Davis
2019 Loss @ Sac State
2021 Win vs. Cal Poly
2022 Loss vs. Idaho
2023 Win vs. UNC
2024 Win @ UNC

In the playoffs, he's 3-0
2019 Win vs. SELA
2021 Win vs. EWU
2023 Win vs. Delaware
Thank you! Of course I do also recall the regular season byes seemingly not going so well..

Great stuff Brint!

I would add a few players to watch for us. You mentioned Ripperda but our best defensive linemen are DT Logan Green (#51) and DT/DE Kobe Klayborne (#94). Green is mostly a run stopper that is also a decent pass rusher, he's going to need to come up big if the Jacks want to contain Gillman. Lately Klayborne lines up at DE more but his normal position is DT, though he's undersized at 6'0" he is very disruptive from either position (first team all-MVFC).

On offense I'd also look out for RB Josiah Johnson (#34) & WR Jack Smith (#19). Johnson is a true freshmen who didn't even see the field until the Murray State game, but he quickly became a fan favorite in Brookings because he's a very hard runner that's not easy to bring down. He's also pretty good at picking up blitzers, and he's had a few impressive blocks where he really laid the wood to a LB. We will need more of that against Montana's blitzing style. Smith isn't nearly as explosive as Wortham but we like to use him in the same sort of ways, lining him up in the slot or out wide, or even in the backfield. He's a pretty decent kick returner too.

Another thing to look out for when we're on offense, is in the last two games we have been having our offensive linemen switch sides depending on which play we are running. I've never seen anything like it any level, but it's been working. UND has the top ranked rush D in the MVFC and we ran for over 200 yards against them, and had more success with it last week as well. I'm sure the two games have shown plenty of tendencies that your coaches have picked up on, I'm also sure we have some plays ready to go to counter those. Could be a fun chess match.

I'm worried about how we contain Wortham when we kick off. I'm hoping we can just boot the ball through the end zone, because in the couple games I've watched it looks like he's not afraid to return it from a few yards into the end zone and I'd prefer to not give him any chances. Our punter Max Pelham is maybe the best in the country, he averages 48.7 yards per punt with very good hang time. He and the coverage unit did an excellent job containing Taco Dowler when we played MSU earlier this year, I'm optimistic we can do the same this weekend.

Something tells me these young men are pissed off and are going to play with their hair on fire.
I do agree the TE’s need to be more involved in the passing game and the snaps need improvement.
sdsu……..20
Montana….35
Go Griz!!

Awesome stuff!

Hey we rotate our centers - so it'll be the battle of weird OL rotations haha.

Smith had and Goering had a nice game both as WRs - Smith had the swing pass for a TD that he continued to jumping into a snow pile. SDSU sure looked like they're having fun out there.

We rotated our guards on the right side for the first 10 games, until our RT got hurt and one of those guards shifted over to RT.

Weather schmeather….. it’s the playoffs, nut the F up or go home. This ain’t complicated folks, losers make excuses, winners screw the prom queen, who you gonna be?

Anyone else think Wortham is going to erupt this weekend?

He is pissed after the cat game...he and KAY are going to absolutely shred the jacks.

Over / Under on Wortham total touches? I'll set it at 15

The staff rarely even has Gillman getting 15 touches… seems like a high number for Mike. Maybe 7-10

What’s the vibe around the fanbase about Dan Jackson, and how do you feel he’s done this year? First year head coach, several years removed from Stigg, and the first time in a while without being a seeded team. Is the general feeling that he’s “the guy” and that all the turbulence after last season is what contributed to some ups and downs this year? Or is there more impatience?

No impatience with him so far. He was an awesome recruiter during his first stint here and he's proven to be just as great now. We all knew that he was walking into an unprecedented situation and he did a better job constructing a roster for this season than we could've expected. He's an upbeat guy with an always positive attitude, it did get a little old hearing that every week during our losing streak but if there's one thing a coach has to do is be who he is because the second he tries to be someone else the team will see right through it.

There is some impatience with the coordinators, especially the OC. Even when we were 7-0 the offense never really seemed to have an identity, and was often having troubles finishing drives. Frustrations with him really increased when our backup QB's had to play, we seemed to be running a lot of the same stuff instead of trying to alter game plans for life without Mason (though the UND game I do think he called his best game of the year by far). After Mason came back last week suddenly everyone forgets their frustrations with him and thinks our offense is unstoppable now....weird!
