This thread like many on here has been totally derailed.
Here are my thoughts on your question.
When Wa-Griz opened in 86 Griz football games started to be more popular. That coupled with tenure ofDon Read and his offense, which was explosive in scoring a lot of points made it grow even further.
Once Griz football started rolling you started seeing more and more fans. A high percentage of the new fans know very little about the game.
I’m not sure what the percentage of fans post on eGriz are, myself I post very little. I think I have posted about 50 times between this username and my last one.
Many of the new/social fans think that the Griz should win by 4 or 5 touchdowns every week. That is unrealistic, but during halftime or after the game you will hear a lot of fans whining that the Griz should/need to play better and will tell you what they should have done. Most of the time the ones I hear saying this have never played the game.
I would bet it’s the same for all football teams with large fan bases, when the team doesn’t win by a large margin or if they lose than many fans start saying dumb

.
I guess we should just be thankful that we have many clueless and in knowledgeable fans. That means the Griz have a team that is successful.
If Griz football was not successful, those fans would find something else to do.
