Cat game analysis

That was said within the context of whether they’d be really good like last season or not. Context matters Nick. Obviously things can be taken in the macro, such as the Dowler kid is really good, but that game didn’t show anybody if they’re title contenders or not. You’re smart enough to know what I was getting at. Don’t be dense.
I can tell they have taken a step back. You can as well, or at to a closer degree that what you predicted the recruiting cycle to look like. Moron.

A top FCS team should show better against even the No. 1 FBS team, is my view. The Cats showed almost nothing good or credible except Dowler and QB. Where were the touted OL, rb’s and DL? Cats couldn’t get even a short run, except 1. DL didn’t seem to do anything. My analysis is based on hope. It’s what I observed.
You make a good point about the OL and RBs. For the supposed "best OL and RBs in FCS", they looked completely helpless.

I 100% agree with your assessment. They got pushed around by the OL, and the Oregon DL rushed at will. The team speed and athleticism wasn't comparable. I venture to say that any FCS team and many FBS teams would have suffered the same fate. This is one of the top teams in the country and they're going to the FBS playoffs. They may not lose a game. They'll probably do the same thing to Oklahoma State next week. Can the Cats really be this bad? I hope they are. I hope they lose every game in this fashion, but alas, they won't. They're probably gonna lose to SDSU, but after that get it back together; unless their self esteem is totally ripped out by then-which i really hope happens. FTC! Go Griz!
I actually think they beat sdsu at home by 10. The rabbits looked really sloppy this past weekend too. Defense was good but offense and special teams looked bad.

Yup. And I don't take too much from the game either, nor have I even mentioned the final score in any of my posts. Oregon scored on all 9 of their drives, 8 TD's and 1 FG, until the last drive at end of game. Drives of 74, 59, 52, 67, 70, 75, 80. Why didn't the Cat D even get lucky one time, and stop them?

I didn't see the SDSU game, nor look at the stats. And Cats are tough at home.

SDSU looked like they are still pretty good at what they want to do, which is running the ball and being stout on defense. Ran for 255 and held Sac to just 24 yards on the ground. Held the Go-Go Offense to just 130 total yards, as well.

But man, they looked sloppy as hell doing it. Sac, whose front 7 looks to be pretty damn good, got 7 sacks, and SDSU fumbled redzone chances away and missed seemingly routine FGs. Chase Mason made some really bonehead plays at times, which contributed to the high sack numbers, but they didn't show anything that seemingly can't be corrected.

If nothing else, we'll learn an awful lot about both MSU and SDSU next weekend.

You may be right and hard to tell a lot after 1 game. Here is what I do know. SDSU will clean things up this week if their coach is worth his salt. That was a better opening game for them to get the kinks out. They will be ready and know very well who they are playing. A mini rivalry has blossomed with MSU. Cant’s look like they lack a leader on either side of the ball. They got curb stomped. They look dejected and lacked any fire. Their coach was his usual flummoxed self on the sideline. No FCS team was keeping it competitive with Oregon. Not a single one. Defensively though, wow. What a beat down and a clinic on extremely poor tackling form. Their lines were overpowered and you expect that, but MSU is not deep on their lines and they better show better against SDSU. I think they lost a lot more than people realize with the portal. Home advantage is huge and SDSU is going into a hostile environment. I predict SDSU wins by 7 and maybe 14. Dowler is a stud and the QB has a decent arm. The Cant’s just lost a lot with graduations and the portal. It will be tough for them to run the clock and pound the rock like past years.

I want whatever you are smoking the Missouri Valley is wide open lol? NDSU received 53-56 first place votes idk how that translates to not as formidable but the Bison are very good way better than anyone else at the FCS level.
NDSU is not as dominant as they once were, their QB can be flustered and makes poor decisions, their defense isn't as formidable. The Citadel is a horrible Southern Conference team. They went 0-11 two years ago. NDSU won't be tested until 9/27, 10/4, and 10/25. We will know more how good NDSU is after 10/25.

And yes, the Missouri Valley is wide open compared to previous years. IMO, this year, UND, NDSU, SDSU, USD, and Illinois State all have a chance to win the conference. For the MVFC, that's as wide-open as it's ever been in the last 10 years.

If the Citadel is so bad and they played a Clemson team at the end of last season that is bigger, faster and stronger than Oregon closer than the Cats last week what does that say about the bubs outlook for this season?

I don’t think you understand the talent level difference. The best offensive player for the Griz last year couldn’t make an NFL roster. Oregon has players who will make an NFL impact the day they get drafted.

Fwiw, the last game the Griz played they were losing by 30+ points until there were some garbage time TD’s. It would be much worse against an actual powerhouse P4 school. Don’t delude yourself into thinking otherwise.

As for what this means for MSU? Who knows. Hard to take anything away from a game like that. They never had a chance.
The best offensive player on the GRIZ last year is still on the GRIZ. I know this because he's the best offensive player in the country.

For such a mobile QB Payton’s feet looked like they were stuck in the mud. People need to take into account it was pretty wet. I expect he will move better as the season progresses and they play in more domes.

I’d be surprised if they win a single game.

Fair enough. I thought Bergen was better last year, but I wouldn’t argue it.

I would like to think the best offensive player in the country would have done better than 69 yards on 32 touches against the 3 best teams on the schedule, or maybe you think the OL is just that bad?

My take away from that game is the bobcats suck, but I knew that coming in. Don't make excuses for a complete ass whooping where the only time they made it into the end zone was a "GARBAGE TIME" score. At least they took out the garbage without trash can tommy though. Console yourself with that refuse.

They might suck! They might not. I just don’t think you can tell from a game like that. The talent difference is too extreme. I don’t need any consoling by the way, I truly do not care either way. I just like discussing ball.

Edit:

Just to clarify, we absolutely know they suck in comparison to Oregon. What we don’t know is if they suck in comparison to their FCS peers, and most importantly, in regards to UM.

Your recruiting and talent expertise has always been on point

Stevie Wonder could see The Shi__y 😸 Kitties are slower, weaker, less talented than last year, but not you Kitty 😺 Whisperer !!!

We’ll find out if they suck compared to a top Missouri Valley Conference team this week but I am sure the same excuses will roll in about how SDSU would beat the Griz or anyone else in the Big Sky when the Cats lose at home.

What we also know is that their running backs, run game, and run blocking showed nothing at all, except being weak. And that their D looked a bit weak, as it gave up scores (all TD's and 1 FG) on every Oregon drive of the game, except the end of the game drive. Oregon may be super good, but they are to that good. Part of it is that the Cats showed weaknesses in the game, and my view that wasn't only the result of great Oregon talent. If you like to discuss ball, why don't you discuss it. Saying no one can tell anything about the Cats from the game because of the talent disparity is not discussing the game.
