LadyGriz Holsinger on Leave

While I don't agree with you, Sport, you're a great GRIZ fan and your civil and you're probably right about it being time to move on--probably ..

It's really not a matter of opinion though. The facts are that in addition to a subpar performance on the court, she was also disliked by many of the players and staff. Her recruiting was also well below the Big Sky standard.

I guess if you like shitty coaches that are widely disliked by the people they work with, then more power to you.

Well, I guess Sophie Stiles and Jamie Pickens were LG players and pretty good, and they liked Shannon and said so publicly, and Mike Petrino was/is a good basketball coach and testified in support of Shannon as her former assistant coach , and Rob liked her as well or he wouldn't have hired her and kept her as his assistant coach for 24 years and then strongly supported her succeeding him.

Yes, the LG struggled her first few years probably because Shannon was learning the ropes as a HC and the team was also really beat up--Sophie, who would become an All Big Sky Guard, first suffered a season-ending torn ACL. Her final year, 17-13, was successful and Shannon should have been at least extended a year. When she wasn't, Jamie transferred to Carroll and became a 2 time All-American and Mike barely was able to talk Sophie out of transferring. ( And Sophie and Jamie were just better than the girls whining who Sophie said in an interview " didn't fit into our system.") And look where we are now.

Even the greatest, winningest coach in the history of college basketball 🏀 Mike Krezyzewski, Coach K, suffered back-to-back losing seasons @ Duke early in his tenure, 1982 and 1983, and his Army team had two losing seasons during his five-year tenure, including going 9-17 his final year in 1980, all of this happening before winning 5 NC's and 7 Olympic gold medals.

And while great players do indeed sometimes make lousy coaches, Montana's own Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers and Steve Kerr proved that you can be both !!!

We don't agree, '75, so we will have to agree to disagree.

billingsgriz must assume if he keeps rolling out the same nonsense he is going to change opinions...and many facts for that matter. Funny thing, for all the Holsinger hate, he has accomplished more than Shannon as Griz head coach.

Sorry, B Dizzle, Sophie Stiles is a singer of some note--pun intended--I get the two confused. In the interview I read with former LG guard Sophia Stiles, she was very complimentary of Shannon, who recruited her out of Malta, stating that Shannon was very kind and caring and came to visit her in the hospital after her surgery. And she said that the unhappy LG whining about Shannon " didn't fit into our system " and that she was going to transfer after Big Kent 🙄 fired Shannon but Mike Petrino finally convinced her to stay in Missoula, who was our interim coach and testified under oath that Shannon didn't physically or verbally abuse her players and that she was a good coach.

I guess former Lady GRIZ and All Big Sky Guard Sophie Stiles that praised Shannon as kind and caring and a good coach, and diplomatically referred to the LG whining about Shannon as " girls that didn't fit into
the system" knows less than you do , 66 ?

And the only two-time All American in the history of Carroll College Jamie Pickens who played for Shannon, transferred to Carroll after Shannon's dismissal by Big Kent--BK--and and gave a sworn affidavit stating that Shannon was a good coach and she enjoyed playing for her also is out to lunch ?

And Mike Petrino, Shannon's right hand assistant testifying that Shannon was a good, passionate coach that didn't mistreat her players also knows less than you ?

But I did find out that Robin Selvig absolutely couldn't stand Shannon, HHB, from a " source."Rob absolutely detested Shannon both as a player, and then he hated her so much that he hired her as his assistant coach for 24 years --that's pure hostility !!! But my " source" wasn't done and enlightened me that JFK was killed by The CIA and Freemasons, not loner Lee Harvey Oswald, the moon landing was faked on a Hollywood movie set, Israel--not Saudi Arabia--was responsible for 9/11, and Elvis is still alive but at the age of 92 is now residing in a nursing home in his native Tupelo, Mississippi, and the RN's and CNA's have to chase The King in his electric blue suede wheel chair out of female resident 's rooms-- I guess once a Hound Dog alwaysa Hound Dog !!!

It is funny that BK folded like a cheap suit once the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to hear Shannon's civil lawsuit and quickly put up $350,000 of UM's money 💰. Do ya think he was worried about what Rob, Sophie, Jamie, Mike and others were going to tell this appellate panel ?
"And the only two-time All American in the history of Carroll College" What about Dani Wagner?

We can continue to beat this topic into the ground if we want. Just not sure that we need to re-legislate something that is clearly in the rear view mirror. SS was dismissed five years ago. We are going to be two coaches removed from her, and while it is fair to question Haslam's decision making, SS is not going to come back through that door whether you want her to or not.

There are a number of coaches that might be considered...:
1. Nate Harris the current interim HC.
2. Katie Faulkner former LG player and head coach at Pepperdine
3. Jordan McIntyre: University of Utah assistant coach and former LG assistant and player.
4. Jocelyn Tinkle. Former LG assistant and current assistant to Katie Faulkner.
5. Kellie Lewis: San Diego State Assistant and former BSU player and Washington coach under June Daugherty.
6. Mandi Carver. Dillon native, Idaho State Star, College Assistant w/ Fresno State

I would be surprised if Katie is in anyway interested.

Who recruited all of these whining players who didn't fit into the system??

Payne isn't leaving a top Big Sky team to rebuild another Big Sky team. In the last 5 years NAU has 69 Big Sky wins (2nd to MSU). When she leaves, it will be for a much bigger job than UM.
You are likely correct, SACCAT66. Unless you have insider info, I can still hope she'd be interested. As remarkable as her tenure has been, I can't help but think she'd be disappointed that NAU can Not draw 500 fans per home game (481 pg. this season) for that quality program. No disparagement of Havre, but I doubt that a "return" to her native state is all that much of an attraction.

A lot of people, including at NAU, don't like her, I am told.

I think Payne actually would consider coming to UM. Now that she’s the winningest coach in NAU history, there’s really nothing left for her to accomplish there. Especially if she gets them to the NCAA Tournament this year. I don’t remember if she was considered last time or not, but this time around she’s much more established and has been quite successful. Would she be interested? Hard to say, but if she is, I think she’s the safe and smart option.

Missoulian writer Bill Speltz listed her as a possible candidate but not sure if Haslam did.
