Playoff predictions

Honestly, this whole talk of MSU being 7-0 reminds me a lot of when the Griz started 5-0 a few years back, and then the train just derailed. Think we lost 2 or 3 games the rest of the year.

The Griz started 5-0 thanks to a weaker opening schedule and then got punched in the mouth in the 2nd half of the season. Bobcats benefited from a weak opening schedule to go 6-0. We'll see if they can maintain it in the second half.
Well, we also lost our starting QB for 2 of our hardest road games, and the back half of our schedule that year was much harder than their remaining schedule this year.

What season was that?
2022. We were 5-0 to start, lost to Idaho, then played @ #2 Sac and @ #5 Weber in back to back weeks with our backup. Then we got clobbered in Bozeman by the #3 cats.

Much more similar to your schedule last year than your schedule this year.

Ah yes. All my years jumble together. That was a tough finish. Did remind me of ours last season.

No worries, it's tough to keep track of other teams' results.

If you asked me what your season was like in 2022 before the brawl, I don't think I could tell you in much detail lol

We literally went 2-4 in the second half of the season and were like the last team in the playoff field.

did that 5-0 include a FBS win (even a weak FBS) and a ranked FCS win?

Well to be fair to Idaho, their entire QB room is injured. All 3 of them have shoulder injuries. If they had Jack Layne available like you guys had Tommy available, that would've been a hell of a game. I feel bad for them. If they don't get one of their QB's back healthy in a hurry, they may squander their season away
Ok you can try to say they could’ve kept up but if you weren’t at the game there were high winds. It made passing very difficult and I don’t think Layne would’ve been successful on deep balls, like at all. There was a lot of wind. So lets quit with this stupid narrative that Idaho wasn’t good. The cats demolished a very good defense and shut down a dangerous offense.

I never said the cats weren’t good, and I did watch the game. The QB who they relied on who was gutting it out through an injury couldn’t complete any pass. Probably because he was in a lot of pain. Hence why they decided to go with the third string before he also got hurt in that game.

Had Layne been available, I guarantee you he could’ve at least completed short and medium passes, and could’ve got things going with his legs a bit. Does that change the outcome? Probably not, but it does make for a more interesting game. Hell, any healthy QB for Idaho makes it a more competitive game

Nobody ever plays in the wind and completes a pass right? Is this what Sixx has told the fanbase after the last 3 seasons? We don’t throw the ball in case we play in a windy game? Seems the kickers made it work. Tommy made throws.

And Idaho has a dangerous offense? They were averaging 21 points coming into your game and limped in with their 3rd string QB. Cummings is averaging 5.3 a carry, but not hard to shut down when you can stack the box and there’s not a threat of passing.

Yeah, Idahos offense isn't great. Their defense appeared to be great up until they played the cats though.

This weeks playoff predictions, def wild to see how herder sees it laid out still
That's an interesting bracket. I think that would be a really good draw for us. We would dust Drake in the first round no problem (essentially a bye week) and then a SEMO team with the same QB we saw just 2 years ago. They have a good team but the OVC is very weak and they don't exactly have any great wins. I think we would win that game in rather comfortable fashion. Then Mercer in the quarters who suddenly doesn't look as tough after getting bulldozed this past week. We'll learn a lot more about Mercer this weekend when they play WCU. Then it would be off to the Fargo Dome in the semis which would obviously be a very tall task, but who knows, maybe the Griz come out of this bye week and they're a completely different team.

Of course, a lot of things are gonna change between now and Selection Sunday, but that would be a very interesting Playoff path. Interesting to look at a hypothetical like that.

Posted this in the wrong thread, but I'll put it here, too:

Our path forward is pretty clear.

5-0 (10-2) to end the year, and we're the likely 3 or 4 seed, depending on how things shake out.

4-1 (9-3) with a loss to the cats gets us a top 8 seed, probably even if we're absolutely flavor blasted again in bozeman. Losing another game, but beating the cats is likely the same outcome.

3-2 (8-4) with losses to Davis and the neighbors (I believe this is what Herder thinks will happen) gets us about where he has us: a low seed somewhere around 12-16.

2-3 (7-5) and we might just barely limp into the playoffs like we did in 2022, but it's certainly not a lock, and we're probably right back to where we were as a fanbase after the 2022 season.

Worse than that, and it'll be rough in Griz nation.
