Let's see your preseason polls

I'll bite. Mine is more a repudiation of the rest of the Big Sky in this upcoming year. Every team has question marks, of course, but I feel like the Griz have overall far less. And behind them, the Cats have the least question marks for me. We have every reason to believe their offensive line will be really strong again, Mellott will only be better with another year (even if I still think he is poorly served as a QB in their system), and they have shown that they can grind through the vast majority of the conference. They lose some players, but the teams I ranked below them lost more.

I wouldn't be mad at anyone for putting Davis ahead of the Cats. Idaho was clearly the better team last year, but they lost their offense to the draft and the portal. They also seem to have some real campus culture problems if the players are feeling like they are being singled out racially and are being targeted. Their athletic department has been under a lot of fire, particularly with the Volleyball situation, and there seems to be a lot of discontent.

Sac is intriguing, but I don't have reason to jump them above the Cats.

Weber has tons of questions. EWU has been in sharp decline, and I have no reason to believe that changes.

I am higher on Hawkins and ISU than most people are, but I don't see them jumping to the top tier of the conference this year that the Griz and MSU have been in.

The rest is kind of a pu pu platter that we will see shake out.

I wasn't necessarily saying I have reason to believe the Cats are as good or better than last year. I just am not sure I see anyone else in the Big Sky who has gotten better, and Idaho took a big step back.

Just my thoughts. Its pre-season. We have a long way to go, and I would not be entirely shocked if the Cats ended up just above a .500 team this year, either. I'm very curious if their coordinators were holding them back, or if the HC and talent just aren't up to the task.

A good reasonable assessment. I agree.

Short version: The cats aren't necessarily going to be all that great this year but neither is anybody else (probably) except maybe Montana, so that earns the cats a number 2 spot. Did I get that right?

Yea, pretty much. Can I send you my posts ahead of time, and you can edit for length? 😅

Any team could surprise us. I just have no reason to believe anyone is better than us or the cats.

Haha. Name one person who thinks Cats were great team last season.

8-4. Wow, that is really showing some confidence in your team. Laughable.
Maybe I misunderstood your point. I thought you said the Cats weren't good last season, and they're going to be worse in 2024? If that's the case, they should lose at least four regular season games, correct?

You've got some tough games. Could easily lose 4. New Mexico, and Idaho will be tough games. isu or ewu could surprise you. Davis and the griz should be favored if they play as expected.

I do. But I also think the Griz were better than NAU so I might be nuts.
A fair retort but let’s drill down.
I think we both can agree the winning team was better than the losing team on those respective dates. In other words, NAU was better than The Griz that day, just like UI was better than msdui that day.
But, taking the season as a whole, The Griz were better than NAU, and similarly, UI was better than MSdUi. Agree?

"easily replaced" certainly indicates that the backups are at least as good as the starters. It's okay; we hear it from you guys every year. Certainly no surprises there.
You should check out the MSU OL in 22. They had just lost Kidd, Tuiasosopo, Redd, and Session. Guess what… they broke almost all rushing records the next year. Goes to show how talented the 2s are. This year the line should be Moore (6’5” 306), Wehr (6’4” 292), Sain (6’4” 292), Perkins (6’ 282), Reed (6’3” 277), then transfers- Samora Ezekiel (North Texas so. 6’2” 270) and Dylan Rollins (6’6” 295 4 years of eligibility)… and I didnt name two other redshirt sophomores who are 6’4” 290+.

Yes the 3 transfers hurt but this should be the best OL MSU has had since I can remember. So many starts for this squad and most aren’t seniors. I would love to go through all positions and explain the depth… I will say the only position where I sense a slight lack of depth is at LB.

I can't wait for this answer. Definitely going to display lack of football knowledge if that's his claim.
Well for starters your WR (bergen threw a ball that was tipped into the hands of a receiver.

Dude the te got held so hard that he fell down… I don’t care who you root for, that was an obvious call.

Come on man! I believe I heard the cats are favored at -7.5 at NM… Idaho’s offense has so many question marks. I agree Davis and Gris can be tough but Bobcats have done well against Davis and the Gris haven’t won in Bozeman in a long time and not only not won but got their shit rocked.

To be fair, I said that NM would be a tough game, not that they were favored to win. They may be a crappy FBS team, but they are still an FBS team. They will be tougher than games like NoCo or PSU. Its not a gimmie game by any means, my guy. Also, to be fair, its pretty tough to put odds on the first game of the year.

I absolutely agreed above that Idaho's offense has question marks. But they cannot just be discounted.

You're right, the Griz haven't won in Bozeman in a good while. Totally true. I never said the Griz would be sure to win, but if the season plays out as expected, the Griz might well be favored going into it.

I wasn't shitting on the Cats. I ranked them second in my pole. I was responding to poorgriz when he asked if we really thought they could lose 4 or more games. There are 6 games on the schedule that I would call question marks for the Cats.

Fair… I really only believe the cats can lose 2. NM will be tough but I like our chances and UM will be tough but the home advantage will be nice.

Yes odds are tough but I think they are fairly accurate with the other FCS vs FBS ones as well.

I would imagine the gris could be favored if they don’t lose a regular season game which should be fairly easy if they don’t do what they did last year.
