Agreed.

GRIZ had no answer for Timme, but then everyone expected him to be a lottery pick making $27 million a year in the nba right now so….

And he got every call.
Ya I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought the officiating was pretty lopsided tonight.

It wasn't that bad until the last 5 minutes. Timme gets a lot of those calls against everyone. We really got hosed on several down the stretch. Great to see them claw back when it looked like a blowout brewing mid half 2. Took a while and looked iffy for a while but I think this gives them some confidence going in to conference play. They know that they can come from behind on the road.

Do you ever make sense on this gossip board? Life must be difficult for you as you seem to attack everyone on this site. Go play in the snow.
Mac Andersen adds a rare perspective to the Griz basketball team. It’s the intangibles that he brings to this team. Things like attitude, enthusiasm, and things that cannot be quantified on a stat sheet. Things like heart and the willingness to give his all for his teammates. A very rare commodity in todays sports world. Mac didn’t have to come back for this year. I believe he’s already graduated but he felt he could help this team. Despite those who criticize his play we should all be thankful that there are still young men who do it for the love of the game and the university of Montana.
Mac, thank you for your service.

...then learn how to spell his last name! He's not related to an ex Bobcat lb.

Sorry bout that, I’ll work on that. Mack, Mack, Mack, Mack…..🫢

Crew called 25 fouls on the Griz, 15 on the Zags. Two Griz fouled out, one was on the verge with 4. Meanwhile, only one Zag was close with 4.

From my seat, above griz bench I didn't think the calls were all that out of line. We definitely fouled more than the zags did.

With the Griz style of defense, you do expect that. However, Gonzaga also tries to play tough defense, so they should pick up more too. A +10 margin against the Griz just seems a bit more than the "normal" home bias.

Officiating was far from egregious, but it was a little lopsided. But you expect that going in. Top 10 teams and all American players are going to get protected, particularly at home.

The traveling calls on the GRIZ (and not on the Zags) were somewhat bewildering, however.

Nice article (fairly even-handed) article on ESPN:
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...-gonzaga-holds-montana-72nd-straight-home-win

Some relevant quotes:
Timme started 4-for-9 from the free throw line but went 4-for-4 down the stretch to seal the game after a late Montana rally. The Grizzlies cut a 17-point second-half deficit to five with 3:06 to play on Josh Bannan's jumper but couldn't get any closer.
...
The Zags held a 33-27 advantage in rebounding and turned 12 Montana turnovers into 17 points in the first matchup since a near upset in 2015.
...
"We just had too many lulls where we didn't get good shots," Montana coach Travis DeCuire said. "First half kind of put us in a hole and then same thing in the second half ... when our pace is good we get easy offense."
Kinda sums it up.

Before the game against Prairie View A&M, the Griz were ranked #179 by Sagarin. Their Strength of Schedule was #197.

With that win, and despite the loss to Gonzaga, the Griz are now #168 in Sagarin, up 11 spots. Nice, but not that big a deal. However, the Griz jumped all the way to #153 in SOS, up 44 spots. Long-term, that should help both the Griz and the Big Sky.

....to a 15 seed. Yay.

Without commenting on this particular game, my experience anecdotally has been a team with no NBA prospects playing man defense is going to foul a team with 5 NBA prospects a lot more than vice-versa.

And this is not a knock on Mack, who as always, came in and played his heart out, but he did have 5 fouls in 7 mins (20% of the team’s fouls). This should not surprise anyone.

Special shout-out to Mack for having 22% (2) of the team’s 9 assists in 7 minutes.

The thing that really hurt was the two missed free throws, down five with about two minutes to go. We had an 88% free-thrower at the line. Ole mo' was on our side. Whitney was driving seemingly at will in a period we were in the one-and-one. But instead of a three-point, one possession game, they get a bucket to go up by seven, and now we have to play the foul game. Sorta sad the final margin ballooned to ten because in the final two minutes the game was close than that.

One lesson: Against very good teams there's just no margin for error.

The Griz seem to be getting their act together and picking up steam. What are conference prospects? I haven't been paying much attention. Thx.

It killed the Griz when they lost Andersen last year. He is the mental glue for the team.

It's AndersOn.

AndersEn's on the Falcons apparently starting this week. Good for him. Hoopsfan wrong again.

Mack has to be all-time Griz career leader in "fouls per minute on the floor". Maybe total fouls....and most foul outs in a career too.

The conference as a whole was really lousy in November, but all of a sudden most of the teams have playing very good ball in December. PSU has now beat OSU twice, and Air Force who we lost to. UNC has an upset road win over CSU and lost by a point to Air Force last night, Weber handed Utah State their first loss of the season Monday night, Eastern beat Cal, Griz and cats played good games against Gonzaga and Arizona. These teams seem to be finding their groove. Should be an exciting year!
