zags

The GRIZ just took a team who has won 72 straight— the longest win streak in the modern era — to the end.

I mean, if you had told me yesterday that Mark Few would take a time out with 29 seconds left, I’d have assumed it was to get the janitor into the game for his first action of the year. Instead it was because it was a two possession game.

Hell if an effort. Extremely proud

Whoever would have thought we ‘d lose by ten in a game closer than the final score. The two misses by Moody at the line were big. But no matter. Wonderful performance by this team. And how much they have improved this year!

Why is Anderson still on this team? for years we have been waiting for him to play, at least, on an average level.

Probably the same reason you are still on eGriz.

Do you ever make sense on this gossip board? Life must be difficult for you as you seem to attack everyone on this site. Go play in the snow.

Damn proud. DAMN ASSED PROUD.
ABSOLUTELY!!! Don't believe in "moral" victories, but to go toe-to-toe – on their home court – with a team we know has been in the top-10, and will soon be again ... well, that says a lot about how this team has developed and its potential for even further improvement.

GO GRIZ1 :egriz:

Terrific outing by the GRIZ. Ball movement and floor spacing is much improved. Also, there's not as much dribbling. Right now, they're looking like a conference contender. It's nice to have more size and leadership.

I’m impressed by this grizzly team and the progress they’ve made since the first of the year. If they keep playing like they did tonight, they’ve got a shot at the BIG SKY title.

That is an understatement! With just one big guy to box out and help Bannon, this team would be hard to beat in the BSC. As it is, I watched UNC tonight and they didn't show much, and Idaho State had a very very good guy and pretty good young coach. The Big Sky might be a fun conference to watch this year, if nothing else.

Admirable job gentlemen! I can’t be upset about that performance. You gotta wonder if Moody makes those free throws and cut it to a one possession game what would’ve happen. You potentially strike the fear of god into them! Hell of an effort. This team looks for real!

Yeah, if he could have gotten the roll on his shot and the and-one……

Then an 85 percenter missed them both. Tough.

Great effort by our Griz! As expected some ole good home cooking by the refs but that’s to be expected. I really think this team is one of the better ones Travis has had in his 9 year tenure. Rather than one or two go to guys we’ve got 4 four who can score the ball.
I really like the potential of Jaxson Nap. Great floor knowledge, excellent passer and a very heads-up young for a true freshman. He will make a lot of people step up and take notice before he’s done.
I’m really impressed with Josh Bannon. I feel he has brought his game to a new level. He’s not hesitate to get in and mix it up. Something I thought he lacked last year.
I’ve become more impressed with Whitney as each games goes by. He knows when to pick his spots and almost impossible to stop in the paint.
Deshan Thomas continues to impress. Early on I thought he was a little weak on defense but I like his aggressiveness. He certainly gives us another weapon from deep which will also free up Bannon down low.
Moody can be streaky but he’s another one you don’t want to get hot. Unfortunately his two missed free throws towards the end could have put us down by only three but was not meant to be.
In an earlier thread I said if we could keep the final score within single digits I would be very proud of their effort. Even though it was 10 I’m very excited to see this team going forward. GO GRIZ!

Mac Andersen adds a rare perspective to the Griz basketball team. It’s the intangibles that he brings to this team. Things like attitude, enthusiasm, and things that cannot be quantified on a stat sheet. Things like heart and the willingness to give his all for his teammates. A very rare commodity in todays sports world. Mac didn’t have to come back for this year. I believe he’s already graduated but he felt he could help this team. Despite those who criticize his play we should all be thankful that there are still young men who do it for the love of the game and the university of Montana.
Mac, thank you for your service.

Well, crap, I left at the start of the 2nd half for some family time. Sounds like I missed a good one! Very glad they didn't give up. The Griz teams from the last few years almost certainly would have folded as soon as they gave up the lead. Awesome to see this team coming together!

Griz had a 20-10 lead 9 minutes in. Nice. They then got outscored 26-5 in the next 9 1/2 minutes. I realize it was Gonzaga but got-DAMN they gotta figure that shit out. It’s what costs them almost every game they lose…long dry spells where they just go ice cold.

But at least we didn’t get blown out…Zags knew they were in a game right to the end. Congrats to the team for the effort.

Missed the video stream thanks to the Root Sports regional blackout, but actually enjoyed listening to Riley Corcoran's play by play. I also listened to coach DeCuire's post-game interview with Riley, where many of his comments were similar to your synopsis, Sport.

In particular, DeCuire emphatically credited the Griz bench, especially Laolu Oke and Jaxon Nap for their play... Oke for his outstanding defensive play in the blocks when Thomas and Anderson were on the bench with fouls. He specifically credited Nap for invigoring Montana's late second half offensive vision and efficiency with his "passes through the seams" that got the ball to Bannon and Thomas in the paint, and his ability to keep the ball moving around the perimeter that created opportunities for Dischon.

Lastly, DeCuire credited the Gonzaga crowd, which he said was much like the crowd he played in front of as a Griz in the early 90s... adding that this team could use "that kind" of support when league play begins.

Glad I got to go to the game. I think two of the 4 best players on the floor tonight were griz players. Timme is some kind of player tho.

Not going to disagree, but we all know he is a fine young guy with a good future in anything he does, but is 5 fouls in less than 5 minutes really a good thing for a team game? For nearly 6 years he has been a solid performer but maybe, he would be best as an assistant coach. He tries hard, plays harder but just can't seem to get into a rhythm. I know he can because he did it against Michigan but UM needs someone to help with the load Bannon is carrying.Other guys will have to pick up the slack and make up for points given away on the foul line.

Agreed.

GRIZ had no answer for Timme, but then everyone expected him to be a lottery pick making $27 million a year in the nba right now so….

And he got every call.

Ya I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought the officiating was pretty lopsided tonight.
