I was at a Fortune 50 company for 20 years and just before I left it tried the "2 in a box" manager approach with reckless abandon. A management consulting firm brought in to diagnose the company's ills said the practice was extremely bad. I can't say it cannot work under any circumstance but I was co-director of a 100+ person org and the job sucked. You end up with so many compromises that the results have zero vision behind it. I have never coached at any level but if the result is anything like my experience get ready for a mess.

I was co-CEO of an organization for about 4 months...it worked just fine. Then again, we were brothers from another mother, separated at birth, shared a brain, worked together as SVP's for 8 years and were able to finish each others sentences.

I am not saying that you were necessarily bashing Mick. All I am say is that allot of folks, you included, thought it was a great idea to have Mick signed to an extended contract. Now everyone is lamenting our situation.

In fairness, nobody really predicted the disastrous season either that would follow either.

Hind sight…………
Actually I predicted it.

Gotcha, my bad on the over-reaction reply.

I did say it was a good idea for the extension and I even emailed Engstrom (and got a reply) saying such. Hindsight is 20/20 - at the time I suggested it we were stable at QB with JJ, had all coordinators in position, Mick managed to keep all of the recruits from a stellar 2012 class committed, and the team was looking good coming off a decent spring ball.

Then it all went upside down....

Hard to hire into a lame duck situation and they don't want to spend the money.

Of course we don't have the money. As I said last week, Delaney added two more coaches to the roster of being paid but not working at UM. He also did that at the beginning of his reign as HC when he dismissed Arbuckle - we had to pay him to the end of his contract period as well. We continue to operate without transparency because he won't admit that the coaches are gone and so we will appoint from within because we don't have the money. We have no credible, experienced coach in-house to appoint as OC but we do it anyway and not just one but two. Where are all those coaches Delaney mentioned that were beating down the door to apply for the OC job? Mediocrity at its best.

Heard this rumor a couple days ago and thought that even Delaney wasn't this dumb....I was wrong. Old fucker shocks me every time.

You are exactly correct.....fucking screwed is the appropriate term.

Name me one hire that a program has hired a pernament coach during an investigation that has been sucessful.

I don't remember the timing well... but Urban Meyer is off to a pretty good start in his first season at Ohio State despite their intelligibility in BCS.

But, I do see what you're saying.

Wow! If true I too believe Scott G will be the next head coach. If this is the plan then freaking make it public. At least it would show some direction. MD coach for 2013 with Scott as Assitant coach and OC. Not saying I like it but man. This is really starting to show just how screwed this university is. I am no bandwagon fan but the way this crap keeps coming I may need to step away for a bit. Just makes me sick. I sure wish Dave D would see this as a good point to come back to UM to help correct things. Dave may just be the spark needed.

Do what you want but our University and football program need our support more now than ever. It would be a real shame if fans just stopped supporting the team because of their own personal pride.

Gragg could be a candidate for HC next year and his chances will be predicated on how he performs in his coordinating role. I fully expect a national search for HC after Delaney's contract expires and the NCAA investigation is complete. We weren't going to get good OC candidates with where the program is right now. Fewer qualified coaches are going to jump in line to apply for a program during an investigation. Name me one hire that a program has hired a pernament coach during an investigation that has been sucessful. It's better for the long-term if you wait till everything is done and coaches know exactly what they are getting into. You want coaches that are in demand and have had success to apply. Those coaches aren't going to leave stable jobs right now to come here, but they will next year.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I see the reasoning for all the decisions that have been made thus far. If you want to be mad at somebody, be mad at the NCAA for dragging this out so long.

good one!!!!! I hope you like disappointment...

I'll take one second to think about your question and answer with Urban Meyer...

Meyer was hired after OSU's investigation was complete and penalties were known. There was an interim head coach after Tressel was fired and while an investigation was being conducted. :!:

There will be a search to replace Delaney. Gragg could get a look but the job won't simply be given to him..

Wonder if Drew Miller would like to be a QB coach.

Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2

Or Cole Bergquist who is in town.
Not sure Cole would work out. As far as I know he has no coaching experience, while Drew has several years of high school and college coaching and grew up the son of one of the best high school head coaches in the state of Washington. Not saying Cole couldn't do it, just like the experience Drew brings to the table.

Sure, there will be a "search" only because they have to. If only Gragg got the promotion I could hold some hope that they (UM) may look outside the box. However, from what it sounds like, KH will be Co-O coordinator with Gragg. This seems like too much of a plan is set in stone, and the decision has already been made.

Two people, and you already know them, Scott Gragg and Kfense Hynson.

Good men (no doubt)...

However, I know a guy who's in Missoula RIGHT NOW...knows our personnel very well...plus he knows the offense like the back of his hand...He would be a great OC & becuase he already has HC experience he would be in perfect position to take over the program in 2014!

Name: ROBIN PFLUGRAD!

I thought life in America was all about second chances and re-newed opportunity when things go a little sideways. I know many of us would not have become professionals and contributing members to society if we were not granted some level of grace & provided with the true opportunity to fix the damage caused by circumstances outside our personal control.

If I was President I would definitely entertain the thought. Given that our president pushed all his chips to the middle of the table, he would be well served to massage this situation so that it is a more acceptable for all involved.

BTW given the look of things, Mr President would stand to look Golden regardless to how things shake out with JJs trail, the DOJ & the NCAA investigations..making a move like the one being presented within this post would truly be "smart" business in my opinion.

Think about the backlash that may be unleashed if and/or when JJ is acquitted. A man once sung "know when to hold em & know when to fold em...no when to walk away & know when to run." The president of this fine academic institution & fine national championship caliber athletics program is counting his money...sitting at the table and the dealing ain't done!

Grady would put the nail in the coffin. While being a good OC he would be an awful recruiter. Besides he is to busy sucking off the Bobcat program.

Still no one can name a long term head coach who had been hired during an NCAA investigation. Not even a coach-in-waiting during an NCAA investigation.

The co-coordinator deal has to do with football strategy. It has nothing to do with our future plans in coaching hires. OC is probably the most difficult position on a coaching staff. Most OCs I've seen have an assistant (usually the QB coach) who helps with coordinating a game plan and even calling plays on the field. In fact, several programs have co-offensive coordinators (see Texas, Oklahoma, Miss and others). You guys are reading way too much into this. Trust me.

If JJ is acquitted and Pflu is exonerated after the NCAA findings come out, then and only then will this even be a remote possibility.

Don't get your hopes up.

That said, even without knowing all the facts, I think his firing will go down as the biggest mistake our program has made in its modern era. I think he was the scapegoat for the administration, and I honestly think we could be a middle of the road FCS team for at least another two years.
