Your new Grizzly OC will be...

Well, if this coaching arrangement comes to fruition, hopefully all will work out well, however for myself I feel rather dubious of its outcome.

Coach Delaney has been a disappointment in my estimation, there is a logical explanation to be in the coaching business for four decades plus, and never arrive as a head coach at this level in his career, not saying that he is not a very good coach, just suggesting he not a head coach.

Now, with a head coach that more or less has failure thus far, meaning his first year at the helm, leading the Griz to their first loosing season in two decades plus, and not even accomplishing the reason he was brought out of retirement for, keeping the athletes out of jail, after all the last coach was the coach of the year and he got fired, as well as the AD.

It sure isn't a sign of a strong AD, to hire from within, with a failing head coach, and now promoting from within an inexperience OC or two, which assisted the head coach in the losing season.

Well, I can see the difficulty for the AD, he has a staff of people that he has to pay, because they were fired in haste, and head coach that is entitled to live out his two year contract.

This is really a sad state of affairs, for one of the premiere programs of the FCS, a loss of student enrollment, a cut in the athletic budget, a head coach that is a great guy, however way over his head an now inexperienced OC, some athletes leaving the program, it is becoming difficult to be optimistic for the upcoming 2013 season.

Go Griz and thank you president Royce Engstom, and a certain regent.

Wow! If true I too believe Scott G will be the next head coach. If this is the plan then freaking make it public. At least it would show some direction. MD coach for 2013 with Scott as Assitant coach and OC. Not saying I like it but man. This is really starting to show just how screwed this university is. I am no bandwagon fan but the way this crap keeps coming I may need to step away for a bit. Just makes me sick. I sure wish Dave D would see this as a good point to come back to UM to help correct things. Dave may just be the spark needed.

Do what you want but our University and football program need our support more now than ever. It would be a real shame if fans just stopped supporting the team because of their own personal pride.

Gragg could be a candidate for HC next year and his chances will be predicated on how he performs in his coordinating role. I fully expect a national search for HC after Delaney's contract expires and the NCAA investigation is complete. We weren't going to get good OC candidates with where the program is right now. Fewer qualified coaches are going to jump in line to apply for a program during an investigation. Name me one hire that a program has hired a pernament coach during an investigation that has been sucessful. It's better for the long-term if you wait till everything is done and coaches know exactly what they are getting into. You want coaches that are in demand and have had success to apply. Those coaches aren't going to leave stable jobs right now to come here, but they will next year. I know I'm in the minority here, but I see the reasoning for all the decisions that have been made thus far. If you want to be mad at somebody, be mad at the NCAA for dragging this out so long.

I think this is the best analysis of the situation that I have seen and I totally agree. We are in this situation for at least one more season. The budget, investigation and the two year contract are dictating what is happening, like it or not. We want a quick fix now because we hate losing but it isn't going to happen. It is my opinion that this would have been the time to do the national search and start over but that isn't going to happen either. We will likely be starting over after next season. The difference is we will (hoping here) know the result of the investigation, know if JJ is available, know if our current coaches are capable of having a successful season or not.

So the word of the day is "patience".

if you think about this move it makes sense form a recruiting perspective,,,at lesast potential recruits will know what the philosophy of the future head coach is...we are really making the best of a BAD situation imo..and that's the only positive i see...

It's official. http://www.gogriz.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/120712aac.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Brint was correct as to our new offensive co-coordinators. I found this quote by MD to be interesting but not surprising:

"We will evolve a little bit on offense, but we're not going to change that much. My background has always been a little bit of under center, two-back type of stuff, and a power game. We will incorporate that into our zone read package. Overall I think it will be something that is very good for The University of Montana."

Sounds like we will be rotating 4 QBs in each game and having no idea what kind of offense we will run. One positive is the defense won't be able to prepare for a certain offense.

Makes a lot of sense that Hynson was named to a leadership position like co-offensive coordinator - Hynson was on the WWU staff when they shut down football, so he has a lot of experience in that area that will invaluable and can really help out the players and coaches here in a similar situation.

Plus anyone can see the invaluable contributions Hynsons's special teams unit made last year towards shutting down Griz football tradition, so at least we know he is committed to the goal. :thumb:

Between watching two OC running the offense, one that was outstanding last season on special teams, the other with about as much experience as OC, and a head coach that can't keep his headphones on his head that is an optimistic outlook for 2013.

This two OC is silly.
The head coach is in way over his head.
Our team has a good chance of becoming popcorn. Yes, this is beer garden stuff.
Once a proud team with good coaching we now seem to be reaching for salmon droppings in the lower reaches of the ocean.
Royce is in way over his head and his clever intriguing actions have put us in silly land!
We will have a bit of a period of exploration ........ until we don't!

The story ran on eGriz on Monday, and on gogriz today. Should hit the Missoulian sometime next week.

I doubt it. The missoulian is too busy running article after article on the cats.
