Wyoming game made official

Yeah, I know. Wyoming a member of the Mountain West along with a total of nine teams, if not mistaken, after Boise State leaves. At least they're still somewhat solvent; not too certain about the WAC, though. Is Idaho going I-A Independent while their other sports teams join/rejoin the Big Sky? I still don't know what that means for the other members of the WAC like Utah St., New Mexico St., San Jose St., etc.

San Jose St and Utah State are joining the MW next year.

Just an off the wall thought, people were talking about regional games....I wonder how the NCAA would view a game with the Thunderbirds, Dinos, Golden Bears, Rams and Huskies of the CIS. Would be interesting you have to admit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIS_Football" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Believe it or not, Montana had the U of Calgary Dinos on their initial football schedule for 1988 (possibly 89'). I remember thinking "do canadian college teams play CFL rules or American rules?" I still don't know, but I am assuming CFL rules. There was a Canadian kid (ok he was only a year younger than me at the time) down for a recruiting visit here that I befriended (he later played in the CFL) and he was psyched that we were gonna play Calgary. That was one of the things that excited him about playing here. That game never happened, and he went elsewhere. It might be hard to find proof of this anywhere, but I am 100% positive we had Calgary on our schedule. I think Chico State or Eastern New Mexico filled that date.
That would have been an interesting match up. I was at the U in the 80's don't remember that but would have made sense at that point in Griz football history. I don't know if they would even think about it now. Anyone know of any games between NCAA and CIS schools. Interesting question as to with rules would be followed. I can only assume home turf rules.

I don't know how the NCAA would view a game against a CIS team, but I can tell you this much, it would be ugly. MSU-NORTHERN, opened the 2009 season against the Calgary Dinos in Medicine Hat, agreeing to play Canadian rules. The Lights won handily, and ended up going 3-8 that season. Calgary went on to go 12-2 in the CIS. CIS teams make Western State and Ft. Lewis look like powerhouse football teams.
Thanks for answering that question.

Back in the 80's, NAU played U of Manitoba. It didnt count as an official game.

We played one half under NCAA rules, one half under CIS rules.

So what your saying is the level of play is about Frontier Conference level. Is that true across Canada?

I think when MSUN played calgary, they played 11-man when MSUN was on offense, and 12-man when Calgary was on offense....if i remember correctly. it took about a quarter for MSUN to account for that 12th player, but after that it was a cakewalk. if UM played them, it would be an awful mess.

So Boise is leaving and two are joining, correct? San Jose State from the bay would another good FBS opponent for the Griz in the future. The bay area could be another fertile recruiting area. Seems like most of Montana's California players are from SoCal vs. NorCal (any know the reason we we don't recruit more in the bay area?).

Correct. SJSU doesn't bring much to the conference except quite a few TV sets for a TV contract that no longer exists. Though, their football team is looking like a real team this year. Central CA is pretty saturated with college football teams, Stanford, Cal, SacSt, UC-Davis, plus I think Oregon recruits pretty hard down there too. It'd be tough for Montana to make a splash, IMO. SJSU would be a great game to go see with Montana playing though.. I love the Bay Area.

Thanks for the info...I'd go to a Montana SJSU game.
