Would You Believe: Six-Way Tie?

Fun with tiebreakers. Come on you know you want to write that all out IdaGriz! Is there a limit on how long a post can be? :P
Not gonna do it for the 6-2 scenarios. Too unlikely, and too damn much work (particularly since I don't know all the tie-breaker rules the FSC uses).

But: Let’s suppose the highly unlike two-loss scenarios don’t play out, so the Griz are out of the title picture. How would the one-loss scenarios play out?

Let’s assume that MSU does win next week against EWU and then against SUU. A closing loss to the Griz would leave them at 7-1.
EWU, after the the loss to MSU, then beats CP and PSU .. . ending at 7-1.
NAU wins out to end up at 7-1.

The result is pretty simple: MSU would have the tie-breaker over both EWU and NAU and would get the automatic bid.

But suppose MSU loses to EWU, then wins against SUU and the Griz. Final record = 7-1
If EWU wins out, game over. But if EWU loses to either CP (possible) or PSU (less likely), then they are also at 7-1.
Again, we assume NAU wins out for a final record of 7-1.

Now what? In this case, EWU would have the tie-breaker over MSU. They did not play NAU, so there’s no direct tie-breaker between them. But MSU has the tie-breaker over NAU. I would assume that EWU would get the automatic bid.

So, even more than might have been expected, the MSU-EWU games shapes up to be the crucial games as the season winds down.

Ya, but your first two scenarios are huge long shots. The odds of either of them happening are very slim. The odds of BOTH happening... Nope.

Yeah, we're really shaking in our boots about the cats after they struggled to put away the worst team in the conference.

i'm not saying you should be shaking in your boots either way. but if one was going to shake in their boots...i'd suspect it would have little to do with the cats and everything to do with your defense. :o
Careful about throwing stones at anyone's defense. BSC dormat, UNC, does not out gain, and score 4 TDs on Montana and lead late, like they did MSU. Our 5-6 team last year beat them down there 40-17, they had one offensive TD.

please don't take this as smack but why was that a tough stretch? poly is 4-5. sac is 4-5. and it took you overtime to beat both. ewu is very good but they beat you.

I concede our last 3 games were very easy and we did indeed look bad yesterday. I kind of expected it with ewu next week and for some reason unc plays us tough often. :?

I just don't see how poly, ewu, sac is considered a very tough stretch other than you guys had a very tough time winning. in the end all that matters are dubs. you barely got yours against poly and sac....we barely got ours against unc.
Try this; Montana was looking up at each of those three teams in the BSC standings.
UM (2-1) vs. CPSLO (2-0)
UM (3-1) vs. EWU (3-0)
UM (3-2) vs. SacSt (3-1)

And UNC was (0-4), having lost OOC to a DII and their only win of the season to another DII called Langston, which I've never heard of.

Good teams have bad days, bad teams have good days. Upsets happen every Saturday. If you want to take the Cats ugly VICTORY yesterday and extrapolate it to the remainder of the season in a weak attempt to rationalize that the Cats suck then you sir a dick bag ftard. You should definitely run for congress.

Yet that's precisely what the 'scat fans are doing with the Griz VICTORY.

It's CatTroll Logic at it's finest.

If the Cats win a close game against a shitty team then they just had an off game, no worries.

If the Griz win a close game against a mediocre team, then the Griz got lucky and the other team was clearly better.

If the Cats are the beneficiary of multiple turnovers then their awesome defense FORCED those turnovers!

If the Griz are the beneficiary of multiple turnovers then the other team gave the game away by turning it over and the Griz got lucky.

I could believe that the cats had a bad game and UNC had a good game if it weren't for the fact that it ALWAYS happens whenever the Cats play UNC! Not saying the Cats suck, but there is definitely a problem when each year, the Cats have to try to not lose against UNC... It may be about matchups, but still... It's frickin' UNC!

You are correct. It is frickin' UNC. The Cats always seem to play poorly there. If you watched the game, you would notice that Lobato probably had his best day throwing the ball in his career, accuracy-wise. Every throw he seemed to make was perfectly placed, and then on top of that, the Cats let them run as many short routes as they wanted. Lobato playing really well, in concert with MSU not playing well made the game much closer than it should have been. I, for one, am just happy MSU got out of there with the W and I look forward to this weekend.

Well, a six-way tie is no longer possible -- only a five-way -- but I figured I’d resurrect this thread just to be “provocative.” :)

Obviously, the Griz have to win out to be in the mix at 6-2. That, of course, would give the kitties their second loss (another 6-2), assuming they win at So Utah (more on that in a moment).

It’s equally obvious that EWU has to lose the next two. That’s certainly possible on the road at Cal Poly, pretty unlikely (but not out of the question) when PSU shows up in Cheney. Still, if they do lose to CP on the road, the pressure for that final game will be huge. :?

If NAU splits their remaining two games (at SUU, home against NoCol), they also end up at 6-2.

This scenario has Cal Poly winning over EWU, so they only need to beat NoCol to be 6-2.

That’s five teams at 6-2. Note that if SUU beats MSU (we’ve already assumed SUU must beat NAU), then they also become 6-2, but the kitties end up at 5-3.

Again, this all highly unlikely. But isn’t it fun to contemplate one weird way things might work out?
