Are you shitting me? So back in the Ivy glory days let's say you came in on a corner blitz and had a free shot on the QB...... are you saying you would ease up and just hit him hard enough to tackle him? Wow. That's certainly not how I was taught to play the game and it certainly wasn't how I played the game. Of course I'm only speaking from the perspective of MT Class A varsity football, so not nearly at a high level.
What are you talking about? The discussion was about "hitting a qb as hard as humanly possible"--not "easing up" or "hitting just hard enough to tackle him". I always tackled hard, whether in football or rugby, and was considered a hard hitter. I'd still be happy to show you how well I could tackle you (but only with narrow cones). However, I never tried to hit a qb, especially if hung up and vulnerable, as hard as humanly possible. I just tried to make a good tackle, and make sure I brought down the qb and kept him from throwing if I could. I had more respect for the game than trying to hit someone as hard as humanly possible and take them out of a game. Winning was always important, but how one played the game was equally important to me. I generally believe that win-at-all-costs people are a-holes.
