What I wonder is if Hauck is done buying his own BS? And is a rearranging of the deck chairs all the change we're going to see? I'd hope not. But not holding my breath.
So let me take a moment to recount and important bit of history - the Rosenbach saga. You know, the guy who needs to be replaced in the opinion of many on this board. I can recall him being hailed as a genius early on, and I would say deservedly so, because of the struggles they were having finding enough guys to play o-line. Week in and out, they had stuff dialed up that played to the strengths of a host of contributors, like Sneed, Akem, Toure, Curran, Sulser, & JLM. And as you may recall, they moved a couple of receivers to the other side of the ball to field a defense. Calhoun was a better than average receiver. But they were thin at running back for much of the season, which is why Sneeds legs were so vital. That offense was anything but boring.
Flash forward to 2022, and the offense is inside zone running (with a pretty good stable of backs for a change), as Kem would put it - "pillow fight blocking scheme" (three transfer linemen starting - all from P5 schools), a quarterback who could create with his legs - when healthy, and passes to the sidelines. You'd think the TE's were getting hate mail, for all the looks they were getting collectively. I think we all lament the lack of touches for star players like Bergen & Grossman. But the ball goes where it goes, in an offense that lacked even the slightest creativity. And no, Bergen running the wildcat after bozemen decimated the Weebs defense running outside zone the week prior, isn't what I would call creative. Bobby decided that the defense and specials would carry the day. That's where the stars were.
Anyone want to venture a guess as to what might be missing? For me, I know Rosenbach didn't forget how the game is played or how to coach it. Nor do I think its a savior quarterback find or a backup for that matter. Nonetheless, something was definitely missing.
