WIU Will Reveal A Lot About Our Passing Game

Honest question: Did the PSU or CWU games reveal anything? Because Humphrey was 38-57 in those two games, with 5 TD’s, just one INT and 472 yards passing. Or how about 2019? When he was 63-104, with 6 TD’s and 2 INT’s for 761 yards?

Humphrey is 6-0 as a starting QB for the Griz. He’s got THE best WR in the league to throw to (who won’t be covered by an NFL first round draft pick this weekend), as well as a terrific stable of WR’s and TE’s. Our RB’s didn’t miss a beat against a pac-12 team BECAUSE our O-line steamrolled the vaunted UW D-line.

Question: What would Humphrey have to do to get you to admit success (or that you were wrong about him)?

Focus on events in games, and stop your incessant quest to one-ups-me. We played two very poor teams in the spring. PSU was decimated on defense due to Covid and injuries. CWU is an awful team this year. You provided lots of stats, but you don't seem to remember Cam doing the things in those games which I have been critical of. Finally, have you gotten amnesia on the fact that Brown looked to be the better QB in those games?

I have made my observations on Cam, and only time (and a few games) will show if I am correct or full of scat. Be patient. We will know soon enough.

As coach and everyone close to the program has mentioned…there isn’t a QB battle. Cam has the starting position by a WIDE margin. It would take a lot for the team to go away from Cam. And I mean…a lot. Like meltdown throw 4 picks a half type performance. Nobody around the Griz expect brown except for an injury. We need a QB to game manage. We have the talent across the board to win games without a QB that throws for 500 yards. If cam throws for 175-250 a game and protects the ball. That’s all we will be asking or him. He makes good reads. He protects the ball and he can command the offense. Sometimes people forget that there is a LOT more to being a QB, than to just slinging the ball all over the yard

You would know. Was he required to go though the typical hell week process, including a donation of three tubes of KY jelly???

You'd have to ask Chris since it's his board, but I'm fairly certain he just had to make a monetary donation.

The way WIU supposedly plays defense, according to Bobby's comments, playing man coverage on our wide-outs, and focusing on stopping our running game, may quickly give us a read on how good our passing game will be this season. It looks like WIU will try to load the box to force us into a passing game. I am not sure which RB will start the game for us, but it could be possible that we will start our 4th string RB. So, being compromised at that position will play right into the defensive scheme of WIU, forcing us to pass the ball more than we would like. Many questions may be answered on Saturday. Let's hope that our O-line can continue to open holes for our running game to excel, no matter who our RB may be. We need to be balanced to be effective on offense, in my opinion. I don't think we can be a pass-first team this season.

Comments on this post are welcome. Let's discuss.
Apparently not.

Did you make a football post in this thread? I must of missed it.

Exactly. A football post only qualifies as a football post if it validates my opinion.

You're better than this, but I'll give you a pass since it's obvious that a Club membership is so important to you. You jump to every one of their tripe comments. What happened to you?

You asked for football posts. I gave you a football post. With two separate questions. Neither of which you’ve answered, by the way, you just go on bitching whenever someone disagrees with your “analysis”.

Do latent homosexuals always accuse others of homophobia as a smoke screen? Inquiring minds want to know.

I agree. A football game against another team will give us more data to assess the strength of our offense. We could play really well, or we could play average, or we could play poorly. The possibilities are endless, really. This game will tell us a lot about whether we start out 2-0 or 1-1. We shall see. Time will tell.

It isn't bitching, it is discussing the topic. You must have an issue with that, huh? Wanna run those questions by me again? I must have missed them among all of the "he won't admit he was wrong" accusations.

Have 250ish passing yards against a team that's defense is above average for the FCS. Until then, I have no way to gauge his performance.

My first post was a football post. But you felt the need to chastise me as attempting to “one-up” you. It’s not that complicated. I can play back the tape if you’d like.

I still legitimately want to know what it would take for Humphrey to do before you admit he’s the right guy?

I totally agree that there is much more to being a QB than passing the ball, but I disagree that Cam always makes good reads. In my memory, most of Cam's interceptions and "near interceptions (which were several)" came primarily because he threw into coverage. I also never said that there was ever a QB battle. We all knew that Cam would be the starter this season. However, I disagree that Cam will have to have a total melt-down to be replaced. And, I don't believe that Cam throwing for 175 yards against quality teams will be enough to win. You are obviously close to the program, and know much more about the coaches' attitude on Cam. But, Bobby wants to win, and I believe he will make the moves necessary to put the most effective players on the field.

Thanks. I totally expect this game to come down to offense, defense, and special teams play. If we can execute in those three areas, I think we stand a good chance. Some blocks, some runs, some passes, some tackles, some kicks. That's really all we need to do in my opinion. If we end up getting to their goal line and prevent them from getting to ours, I think we will win. We will know a lot more about our record after Saturday's game.

I don’t care how many yards he throws for. If he throws for 150 and 3 TD’s, I’m good. If he throws for 375 and 0 TD’s, not so good, typically. All we have to go on is his body of work to date (which I posted in my original post on this topic) but which you choose to minimize or dismiss. If Bobby REALLY wants to win, do you suppose he might already be putting the most effective players on the field, in his expert opinion?

He has never been a pass-first coach. He wants a balanced attack. But we have been able to run the ball in his first three years here. Maybe our improved O-line will finally allow for "Bobby Ball", but we have not had enough snaps to prove that point yet. We'll have more answers in 2-3 more weeks.

I could reveal something I have heard from the father of a WR at fall practice, and from a golfing buddy very close to the program, but will not. Enough said.
