People are filling out their brackets throughout the country, most if not all are picking upsets, and with those picked upsets in a lot of cases the fans feel some sort of tie to the team their picking to win. Your claim that the Crap 12 is the 3rd best conference in the country depends on changing standards. The rules of evaluation change constantly through the season. For example, "ranked at the time" and "ranked currently" are two different measures of evaluation. If we look at conference RPI, however, the Pac 12 is ranked 6th:

Does that make sense to you? You don't have to take my word for it though. The committee, as is always the case, has the final say in where a conference is valued. Their seeds were mostly all higher than the Pac 12. The bubble was as soft as it has ever been this season. They had to let some Pac 12 teams in because no one else wanted it. When your conference is as soft as the Pac 12, your record appears inflated (unless you're Arizona, in which case you actually lost to bad Pac 12 teams) because you're beating up on inferior talent.
