Will the Defending BSC Tournament Champions...

With the start that we've had, I'd say that's pretty much a given unless the injury bug hits us! (God forbid!)

We'll see.

This is the best record since 1993-94.

In 1993-94, they started out 13 - 0.

What was the Grizzlies final record for 1993-94?

19 - 9

Problem with the schedule in 1993-94 season, was that the non-conference schedule was very weak. The current team would have fared much better. This is a better team than the 1993-94 team and this years schedule is much better. Santa Clara on the road is likely going to be the stiffest test remaining of the non-conference games (other than maybe the ESPN bracket buster).

But, the Big Sky Conference, in my opinion, was stronger back in 1993-94. Add the fact that this team is better than the 1993-94 team, and Griz should win 20 or more.

Looking at the rest of the non-conf schedule there's a good chance the Griz will be 11 - 1, against Montana-Western, at UC Riverside, at Santa Clara, and home against Wisc-Milwaukee. The Santa Clara game could be the most chalenging of those four.

IF it goes that way the Griz then have 14 conference games (and the braket buster thing too) to win 9 games. The Big Sky is looking much improved this year, ISU and Sac are looking like contenders.

I see it happening, I say Griz win 21 games, regular season.

If every one can stay healthy and a few of the new players continue to develop and contribute the Griz should have a fine season. There are three games coming up that should feature the best competition to date. I am not going to prognosticate a plus 20 game season until the:
Santa Clara, UW-Milwaukee, and Idaho State games play out.

Santa Clara game is definitly a challenge.

But UW Milwaukee is coming off a "Sweet 16" appearance!

That's a great home game, hope the folks get out and watch.

I hope the students will be as crazy as they were for the stanford game! But since they wont be home yet i will probably not happen :-(

Go Griz!

A couple of other things to note:

1. The Big Sky Sagarin ranking is a bit higher so far this year than it has been in the past few years.

Why? Because we don't have a cellar team this year. Northern Colorado (0-12) is going to kill us next year. They are getting ESPN's bad press, they have resided in the "Bottom 10" all year.

I was looking at the Sagarin Rankings, which are not as scientific as the RPI, and the first time in a few years we don't have a team in the 300's.

2. I don't think, as good as our start has been, that we are heads and tails above everyone else in the conference. I think we are good, but MSU could be scary good if they get on track and Sac State is a fairly legit school as well this year.

We could be 12-2 in conference, I think 11-3 is more than likely. A 5 loss season seems more attainable.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee almost snapped Wisconsin's home winning streak last night. I'm fairly certain they will give us all we can handle.

I'd have to disagree with you about the RPI being more "scientific" then the Sagarin rankings. The Sagarin rankings are based entirely on mathematical algorithms, although the algorithms are not public.
On the other hand, I've never been able to get the slightest clue how the RPI works, or even who computes it. The whole process is quite shady to me.

In the more open BCS selection process, the Sagarin rankings are used, whereas the RPI is not. Considering that BCS rankings are worth millions of dollars, I'd prefer the computer ranking validated by the BCS.

The RPI is a formula that calculates your winning percentage based upon your opponents winning percentages, basically. It's pretty straight forward actually. Road wins and home losses are weighted. Other than that, its just wins and losses.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee will be the biggest challenge left on the schedule and is maybe the best team we will see all year.

They return 4 starters from a team that went to the sweet 16 last year.

Almost beat a very good Wisconsin team last night @ Wisconsin.

Only loses are to a good Mephis team, Wisconsin, and what appears to be a really good Tenn. Tech team.

Read up some on them before you go proclaiming Santa Claus Clara the toughest team on our non conference schedule.

agreed, I watched them last night.......they could be scary for us to say the least. Although I like our matchups inside.

UMclassof2002.....I beieve bracket buster Saturday will be announced the beginning of February. That way they don't throw any poor playing teams into it thus making it look like a circus sideshow to get peoples attention.
