Will coaching improve?

I just want a secondary coaching staff that will mold players into bad ass, mean, bump and stick, jamb at the line, hit-like-a-truck-put-fear-into-the-eyes of every receiver and RB that ever dares to move beyond the scrimmage line. Now that's how I want to see the coaching improve!

I don't ever want to watch a game like ND again...

Mick you have the keys to the Cadillac, you sort of went off the road last year! Don't force us to take the keys from you this year!

A coach can't make someone a "bad ass" hitter. You either got it, or you don't. Do you think Chuck Cecil, Ronnie Lott and John Lynch were coached up to play tough? No way. That, my friend, comes from within.

I'll guarantee you that last year there were players standing on the sidelines that had it within.

Offensively, Johnson will help create the perception of improved coaching - if Mick doesn't get in the way.
Yah sure if he gets playing time. After all as Delaney said last year Trent McKinney is our guy…. No wait it’s Shay Smithwick-Hann. Oh well maybe Jordon Johnson will get some playing time at the end of 2013 when the Griz are 4 and 7 maybe.

This is the kind of thing I am afraid of.

If Mick can keep his headphones on, that will be a major improvement, and I'm not sure if co-coordinator will be necessary if JJ is the QB, not sure if they will need two coordinators, one to tell him the pass and the other to run.

Post sound like I am pessimist referring to the question of if the coaching will improve, while it is the same as last year, and they managed 5-6 record, if JJ is the QB perhaps they will do better.

Don't forget that Gregorak's mentor was Paulson, not Breske. Bend don't break (soft coverage) is likely to continue. Hermanson played hurt all year. We have depth this year that we did not have last year; if he and Tully aren't better than they were last year we have alternatives.

Perhaps?

This is a great subject and critical question. I am thrilled to death that JJ is back and I thinbk he will add an awful lot and give us some very exciting football. The fact remains, however, that coaching was pretty bad last year (that is being kind) and I personally think resulted in at least 3 and likely 4 losses. It all starts at the top and we have a HC who is a great guy and I think has done a lot to instill discipline which is critical but we have to remember that as a HC at NAIA Western his record was 5-11 and he is also 70 plus years old and was in retirmet when he was asked to come back--does all of that bode well for the future and my answer is that time will tell. ON the surface recruiting was great but you never know until the great recruits actually start playing and contributing. I think we have some great returning talent, some very good asst coaches and the return of JJ is going to be huge not just because of his talent but also his great leadership plus the fact that his return will bring everyone together. The first two games will tell us a lot and despite my concerns witdh coaching I am optimistic that 2013 will e a very good year. GO GRIZ

Yes. But unfortunately one was in "street clothes" all year because of a career ending injury.

What he just said :thumb: Same can be said for coaching. I said LAST year this time there is a strong reason why Rosey didnt have a job elsewhere given his pedigree as a player & Pac 10 coach.

I will say this. Great players make it a lot easier to be a great coach. I will also say that, in Coaching you either got or you dont, too!

So true.....just like you either have accuracy or you dont.

BTW I believe the reason most players dont have that hard ass kill somebody mentality is because Chuck Cecil is still alive and he has hoarded all the aggressiveness.

Old guys fiddle with the knobs because the handles aren't quite where they are supposed to be.

That kind of talk can lead people to a situation where they need a "diversion" program. ;)

All I can say about this subject is I am extremly excited about this year and what the coaching will bring. I am hoping for 11 men back to return the punt. I think that would be par for the course.
