Will Cats Rough Year Affect Recruiting Efforts?

When you recruit a kid, it's pretty easy to analyze characteristics like leadership, mental toughness, football IQ, etc. through watching film, talking to coaches, and talking to the kid himself. Recruiters also have a pretty good idea when they are taking a gamble on a kid for talent reasons.
I can watch "film" all day long. How does that tell me whether or not a kid has "bought into" my "mindset?"

So far we have a very good looking recruiting class this year. We are adding talent at the positions that need it the most and what most Bobcat fans don't really understand yet is that the process is going to look very similar to what Stitt did last year. The roster needs an update at several positions. Going to be a wild recruiting season at MSU. I've followed since last year ended and I love who we are offering and what type of player we are bringing in.

No offense, but I've been hearing that from Bobcat fans (bobcat nation) for about the last half dozen years or so since I've started following recruiting a little bit. So have the coaches just not developed these great recruiting classes or what? Because all these solid recruiting classes aren't able to win a game in the Big Sky...

Many of the top recruits never showed up or didn't pan out.

So what makes this class different then those ones for you guys? Just curious.

Choate is known as a good recruiter. Probably part of the reason he was hired. I expect with his connections that he will bring some good talent. They are also having a good year with in-state recruits. MSU also has the allure of having a good engineering school. That does not hurt either.

MSU has a rebuilding job on its hands, but I expect they will be competitive again in a couple years. I'm hoping so anyways. It's boring when they aren't.

I agree that your class looks strong. I also agree that if Choate wants to make the team relevant again it's going to be a blood bath. Kind of funny how many fans on that side were bashing Stitt for bringing in so many faces and overhauling the roster. Well that is about to happen there, too. Maybe even worse. It will be fun to watch how everyone changes their tune there.
They brought in 38 players last year 2 less than the Griz !

You are absolutely correct. And 80 percent of them didn't even realize it.

Oh I figured there was something that made this class stand out from previous ones, because your guys track record shows that it probably isn't as good as many think.

In terms of the on paper talent, I honestly have no idea if this class looks better/worse than any other year. We all know that every single year, every single teams as "the best recruiting class ever" that's "scary good".

That said, I think MSU fans are hopeful with Choate and the new staff having a full year to build a recruiting class.

Choate has 10× the personality of Stitt when comes to recruiting. UM will suffer far more from bad seasons than MSU.

Gentleman, about the last thing recruits care about is the previous year's record. Missoula has one of the best recruiting tools in the FCS with their facilities. They will always be just fine in recruiting. You are over-rating prior year records a lot here.

Not just recruiting. Watch the sidelines. Players interact with these two coaches very differently.
