Why???

The source of all comedy is pain. Hopefully Coach Ron Ash's pain. I mean, not real physical pain, more like severe disappointment.

Grizrule, I could not agree with you any more - very well stated! Sharing the tailgating and game experiences with fans at other schools AND in Missoula has always been a huge part of our game-day enjoyment. We have partied in Missoula and every other Big Sky venue except Southern Utah and North Dakota. We have attended GRIZ games at Oregon, Iowa, Tennessee, James Madison, Sam Houston, McNeese, Hofstra, Maine, Appalachian State, and Chattanooga (5 times). We have made friends with many fans from all over the country. We've only had bad experiences at Montana State, James Madison, and the Georgia Southern game in Chattanooga. I did attend twelve games in Bozeman but gave it up about eight years ago. I just couldn't put up with the nonsense any longer.

I am also very disturbed with the Montana student fans. They are not learning the right way to succeed in this world. I despise the obscenities and booing aimed at our guests - just like I don't like to be treated like that when I'm on the road. We have a good reputation amongst visiting fans, but that reputation is fragile. It can be destroyed by a very few lamebrains. I intervene whenever I see our guests being disrespected.

Some will never see the light, but each of us can do a better job of respecting our foes, their fans and their student athletes. We're all in this boat together!

I got to this one and nearly choked(would have been perfect had I been drinking a Coke) ...good stuff....

It's not personal, it's just humor. I'm sure Coach Ron Ash and the plus-sized NDSU fans would agree. Don't be so sensitive, it's all in good fun.

I'm with this guy.

Can't speak for all fan bases, but when it comes to our fiercest rival, I think most of us might agree some WHY? points

UM/MSU

UM West slope MSU-not
One school heavily influenced by the Mining Industry in Butte, and all the sufferage and Unions that came out it, and the other focused on the AG, Machine, and Structural end of things. One leaning more towards subjectivity, and the other to objectivity. One a little more to the left, and one leaning a little more right. Long periods of one team dominating the other with little let-up.

And the biggest...Now so common..The good ole internet...All the neagative and disrespectful print would not go unchecked if there was a bit more old fashioned face to face interaction. ;)

Internet sports pain is not the same as real tumult. I laugh when I read this board, especially threads making fun of the cats. I have problems I have to deal with in my actual life like anybody else. Egriz is not one of those. To be fair, mtgriz, you do spend an awful lot of time on this board typing up your thoughts on other posters as well as the the Griz. Most are appreciated, but I think if you stepped back from egriz and approached it anew, it might actually seem funny. The fact is that I have a few very close friends who are die-hard cat fans and when it comes to football, I basically badmouth their team to them just as I do on here, and they return the favor. I would expect no less. I have more of a problem with "Griz fans" who are perpetually negative to the point of absurdity. But to each their own.

I agree with the post. I also feel you have to take the good with the bad. Part of what makes Griz nation great is the passion, but with that will come a few overly obnoxious fans. Part of what makes the cat and ew rivalries great are the two passionate fan bases colliding which will include some smack talk. I don’t feel we have that much of a problem, the vast majority of Griz fans treat the other fan base with respect, especially when they visit Wa Griz. Personally I have learned to ignore the over the top smack talkers, like HORNET and I have fun with the rest. The only place where I really draw a line is when individual players are called out.

Mtgrizrule....I respect your views and don't know if you attended UM or if you are a fan. My family history at UM started in 1935 and we don't like the bobcats. Certainly, we don't cheer for them....ever!! If you want to cheer for the bobcats, have at it.

Terrific post, GrizRule. I completely agree. The stuff you mentioned reflects poorly on Griz Nation, and at times may have an impact on someone of some importance, like a recruit or his family. I sometimes wonder how many of these posters are little people, who think they are more important or can get a bit of attention by posting some of the ridiculous stuff they post.
define "little people"... :o

Amen to that!

I personally do not, and have never liked "smack" ... but it comes with the territory on a fan board. Would I like to see less of if? Of course, but you soon learn who the real malefactors are, and just ignore them. (They generally hate that. :D )

But to "call out" young men, some still boys emotionally, is not only out of line, it could be counter-productive. Some of these young males have the personal resources to handle the kinds of nasty crap that's posted here, some don't. (It's not called "social media" for nothing ... "what happens on eGriz [stays? - nope] goes everywhere.") The coaches are paid to determine which individuals need a kick in the butt, vs some encouragement with construction criticism.

When a poster vents his/her frustration about some (perceived) screw-up on a particular player, it could very well make matters worse for that young person. You may well say "They got to toughen up!" with the old macho approach. And they may well need to -- but, again, the coaches are there for that. Not some dipshit on a fan board who knows nothing about the player and his situation, and may be wrong about the alleged mistake.

Well Said,

How ever what I saw at the playoff game at EWU, I'll never say another nice word about those c*** sucking jack wagons.

Grizrule, just wanted to say well said. Recruiting smack is pretty lame considering NOT ONE of those kids recruited by Montana State or Montana has ever put on a college jersey, ever taken a snap in a college game, with the exception of transfers, and in fact, none of the high school kids are even on the campus of their chosen university yet. It's pretty stupid to put them on blast for anything, and it's pretty moronic to bash the coaching staffs of schools for choosing the kids they do.

Personally, I was disappointed in the Blake Braun tweet yesterday, and the instant reaction to it on BN, for several reasons. 1. Braun himself is barely a college football player, as injuries have meant he hasn't exactly seen a whole lot of playing time. How does he know what makes a good football player yet? Honestly, I would have much more preferred a smack tweet like that to come from a guy like Prukop or Newell than a kid who hasn't even proven himself yet at this point. If one of those guys would have tweeted something like that, I'd feel the same, but really have nothing to say about it. But I was more disappointed by the "good for him, we need more of that attitude" reaction from Cat fans. First off, no you don't need more of that. Talk smack about CURRENT rivalries between MSU and UM players, talk smack about who can bench more or who scored more touchdowns last year or whatever. Talk smack about who's faster. But you don't need more smack talk and attitude directed towards kids who aren't even done with high school yet, and haven't even played a college football game yet.

Lastly, any Bobcat Nation poster who can't admit that if that tweet would have came from Jamaal Jones or any other Griz player, that were wouldn't be a thread dedicated to it using words like "no class" is a flat out liar. BN would have JUMPED all over something like that. Hell, they have never gotten over Chase Reynolds "mythically" saying he didn't like Bozeman.

Point is, I'm all for the rivalry stuff. Talk junk about a lot of different things. But recruiting smack is stupid, and Grizrule is right, it's really gotten worse and worse the last few years.

It is not a pretty sight when a college coach attacks a bunch of 17 year old high school students for not making his job easier for him.

It's an exciting time for those kids but, wow, at that age with that kind of attention all of a sudden foisted on them?

I saw the kid's tweet that he wished somebody would withdraw their offer so he could just take the other one without having to worry about it; he didn't know what to do and he was so wound up and frustrated at having to make that kind of life decision without much to really go on to be able to make it. I felt for the kid.

I love reading the hate rants against California...they reinforce my reasons for loving it here...proceed. 3...2...1...
