Why transfers chose Montana

... anyone remember during the Stitt era, we went on a run with Makena Simis (?). I respect the baller he was, but every one of our QB's is a significantly more capable at the FCS level than he was. If you aren't moderately excited about our QB room this year (3rd'n_doubt_it) you haven't been around griz FB the last decade.

Fife has a very Sneed feel, watch the tape...
Ay Yat gives me a J Jonson vibe...
Huot would be the Andrew Selle of the group...

I'd take all three for another Natty run

He says that but I could see him sticking it out. I bet there’s been a lot of players that transferred in that have said that and ended up staying the whole time
I feel like I think I am…. Is a lot different than the coaches see I am….

I think a lot of kids get in front of this crowd after seeing crowds in other venues and realize it’s special. Just like when people call them out by name out in the community.

I also think that they come in and get humbled pretty quickly given the competition and talent here and realize that a starting job won’t just be handed to them and that maybe there is some talent at the FCS that can rival some of the depths of the FBS. Also, that once they have reached a starting position, they may not want to give it up for a chance somewhere else.

All very good points. I could be wrong but I can't recall an FBS dropdown at UM who played for a while and then left to go back to the FBS.

Dude, you can be as excited as you wish, but our QB room is totally unproven. This is the first year of Hauck 2.0 than we don't even know who our starting QB will be going into fall football.

This was really well put.

We really aren't losing people to the portal, overall, in terms of starters. I think you are very right. We seem to be gaining more from the portal than we are losing, and we seem to be outside the norm in that way.

Hmm, I have a feeling Otlewski will end up transferring.. Believes he is an FBS player and wants to get film... We will see what happens but, I don't think we keep him for more than 2 years.
I took that from the article also.If he is as good as he appears which I think he is even better. It will up to the coaches and the university to keep him here. Also he will need a good team.If he thinks the team is poor he will bolt like lightning.

See, it actually doesn’t. You claim you’ll give Bobby credit, but no one here believes you will. And bitching about having to replace senior QB’s is just plain weird.
You mean replacing a one-year rental QB who was recruited to be a back-up to a another failed rental QB, without having any answers except a couple of inexperienced QBs in the QB room for next season?

Guess where else there were “rental” QB’s in 2023?

Notre Dame
Wisconsin
Purdue
Illinois
Nebraska
Virginia
Pitt
NC State
Georgia Tech
Louisville
Oregon State
Cal
BYU
Cincinnati
Houston
Indiana
Northwestern

Guess who’s most likely going to have starting “rental” QB’s in 2024?

Ohio State
Miami
Oregon
Notre Dame
Wisconsin
Kentucky
Florida State
ASU
Southern Cal
Syracuse
Central Florida
Michigan State
Arkansas
Washington
Baylor
Indiana
Cal
Vanderbilt
Georgia

….to name a few. THIS is the “game” now, Nostrdumbass. It’s not a “Bobby” thing. The best programs in the COUNTRY do it. Some every single year.

But hey, you do you. Keep tilting at those windmills, Quixote. It’s gotten you this far.

Rental QBs is a very recent occurrence for all college teams. Hauck's inability to recruit QBs goes back many years. So, since his latest rental QB is currently third on the depth chart, and his rental QB from last season has already left the building, and his other rental QB fell on his hooter in his last three playoff games, and then bolted for greener pastures, should we then say that Hauck is successful in using the portal to find a suitable QB? Just wondering.
