Why Stitt Will Succeed

Mick was the right guy at the right time. He steered the ship past some big icebergs, kept the kids out of storm (to the degree a coach can do that) and maintained the hull of the program.

I think Stitt will take the offense past the breakers. Keeping Ty on the defensive side was a great captain's decision, and now I think we'll have an offense that will score enough points to win some games that we jettisoned the past few years. I like up-tempo offenses. Robin's team was fun to watch, and Stitt's offense may be even more full steam ahead.

So thank you, Mick, for your loyal service aboard the Griz vessel. Time to let Stitt be the best seaman he can be. Boats.

Although I agree with the points you made, AWF, I'm going to have to give you a C- for only using two maritime references. You are much better than this.

Agreed. If you are steering "through icebergs," you are doing it wrong. I cleaned it up a bit for him to make it more salty.

Why was MD the "right guy at the right time"? (Sick of hearing that)

There are literally hundreds of high school coaches that could have done what he did AT MONTANA.

Qualifications to win at UM:
Moral compass
Good media presence
Ability to run a business
Show up everyday

It has been said for years but winning at UM in the Big Sky Conference (LOL) is not that hard, you can be above .500 just by playing SUU, Portland St, Sac St, Weber St, Idaho St, Northern Colorado and MSU.

Say what you want but anyone that enforces rules could have cleaned up the program with the marginal success that MD had.

However would anyone other than MD have been able to keep the current players on the roster and keep all of the recruits from that year on the team?

Would rising star players from the 2012 roster have stayed on the team or transferred out? Players like Jordan Tripp, Brock Coyle, JP Kanongata'a, Zach Wagenmann, Trevor Poole, Kjelby Oiland, John Schmaing, Danny Kistler, Will Poehls, Ellis Henderson, Alex Bienemann, and Tonga Takai to grab a few. And NO I'm not saying they would have but presumably some would be gone if Mick did not take over.

Also there's the 2012 class that was kept entirely intact by Mick's return. While many of these guys are just rising to the occasion now what would this team be like if some of these guys backed out on their commitment due to the coaching change?

http://www.gogriz.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/012912aaf.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Most notably:

- Joey Counts
- Tyrone Holmes
- Caleb Kidder
- Zach Peevey
- McCauley Todd
- Ben Weyer
- Devon Dietrich
- Ellis Henderson

All of these guys are starters for this team save Counts who is in line for a big role in the offense this year.

Take out a handful of returning players and a handful of the 2012 class and this team's return to some success in 2013 & 2014 - as well as their hopes for 2015 are probably much different.

So true. Those close to the program know there could have been a huge exodus of players, both players on the team at the time and recruits coming into the program, had UM just cleaned house and brought in all new coaches. They needed familiarity and they all loved Mick. He was asked to come out of retirement and weather the storm. He absolutely was the perfect choice at the time!

Thank you! Thank you especially for cleaning up my thank you! I appreciate the safe harbor. Especially after long weeks lashing about on the wine-dark sea.

About re-hashing Mick....it's similar to repeating stories about your ex-wife instead of focusing on your new bride. Only grinders tend to visit about the past during a conversation about the new coach. It's over girls!

What about this Stitt?

WTF are you bringing my ex into this for? I only repeated one story, and the donkey wasn't injured. Wasn't. I knew it was a mistake to allow liquor sales in grocery store. Even if it's within walking distance.

One man's ex is another's Gold. Funny how that is. Gold? Gone... as my ex has it all.
In any event it's the landings I worry about after flying down from the dark North, it is calming once I get back on earth (in Montana).
Finding out the up coming practices will be closed to the common fan and I need to shell out $600 to join the QB club and sit by "higher ups" simply to watch the practice is more than I can bare. Not my style, I like to stay under cover if for nothing more than to blast away on E-Griz.
I am sure the bully banter will subside once the players begin practice.
How will we know the men that are emerging out of the depths? Poor BW can't afford to squeal via sneaking in....screwed again.

Yeah, BTW, WTF is up with that? Haslam, if you're reading this, you need find a comfy seat with the QB club folks for BW. How many $ did he raise for the cause? Is there anyone else in Griz Nation who's a more vocal proponent of the program day in/out. Look up the word ambassador in dictionary, BW's picture is right there. C'mon man! If we've got to come up with a Cnote apiece to get him in, I'll do it. Where do I send it?

And look, if it's an issue, he's promised to be purposely vague while tweeting out updates or posting here. Let's go Kent, tick/tock. I'll make it a hundo, OK.

Stitt will be the greatest coach in school history, including all other sports. With Hauck, Pflugrad and O'Day and the riff-raft they drug in gone and a foundation of responsible administrators at the helm we'll attain heights never before seen. Bad win-at-all-costs fans like Playerrep, 75, Raider, will fall by the wayside and the Griz will also become known for its classy, level-headed fan base.

Garbage post.

It's easy to denigrate good people on the Internet, I would wonder if he is wrong about coach Stitt, will he even euthanize his dog.

And enrollment at UM continues a steep decline.

Oh really? Steep? Please provide the stats.
It went from 14,799in spring of 2012 to 12,500 now. This is from a high of 15,700 in 2011. Meanwhile enrollment at MSU is setting new records.
