Why can’t we recruit a CB?

I think Hauck has handled the situation as well as can be expected in his first two recruiting classes. UM had a lot of receivers, athletes it had recruited to play for the Griz. Wherever those students had a chance to contribute other than receiver, they should have had that chance in the first year, especially considering the amount of scholarships available, the fact that Hauck was hired weeks before early signing period, etc.
I don't think cutting kids from the team en masse to free up scholies in December 2017 would have been great for the team.
In 2019, Hauck made a couple recruiting plays that would have been big for experience had the UM grad admissions worked out. I blame the school for that. Imagine a school hurting for students turning anyone with decent grades away. One grad transfer DB could have made a difference.
Now we have two transfers, would have been better if Fouch stuck around, but we'll see

Social Media is a massive part of recruiting now, and not just for CB's and not just for out-of-state kids either. Any of you who don't think the "hard-working" 406 kids don't care about the social media aspect of recruiting are not only completely out of touch with NCAA football, but you're completely out of touch with the generation of kids that play college football right now, including the ones who grow up right here in Montana. Turner currently has a 6-2 junior post player on their girls basketball team, who is becoming a very legit prospect. She is from Turner MONTANA, is from a farming family that goes back generations, and she has an extremely STRONG social media presence. It matters in recruiting, ALOT!!! And yes, that includes kids that Griz coaches want very badly. I don't care how divaish you think Earl the Pearl was, I know for a fact he had a full ride offer on the table from the University of Montana, and head coach Bobby Hauck, so to whoever said Hauck doesn't want that type of player, you couldn't be more off base. They very, very much wanted him.

Oh and I agree with 1984, the CB recruiting at UM has been scaring me for a long time now.

If Hauck truly wanted someone in today’s environment, he’d have already moved into current day as it regards what these kids expect of the process, including all those 406 kids. But he hasn’t. He could even leave that up to the assistants & AD staff, but he didn’t do that either. The picture included in this thread of Griz official visits is most like the pictures I’ve seen of friends and neighbors who’s kids make a visit on a junior day event @ other schools, not an official visit. And by the way, the vast majority of 406 kids with the ability to play football @ this level already know where they want to go. They still need to be courted, but it’s rarely a full-court press that’s needed.

Less than a month after his visit and full ride offer, the very coveted pearl is back out on Twitter touting his workout, highlight tape and vitals. He’d already decided that Montana wasn’t going to be it. Even Hauck knew it was over then.

If you’re adverse to something - anything needed to compete successfully, you’re going to wind up a loser when the details matter. So yeah, you want it badly, but not badly enough to do everything needed or expected by the potential recruits. Or in this case, to even keep up with the Jones.

Until Bobby gets past his bias’s, comes to this realization & acts on including the appropriate elements, recruiting is going to continue being what it already is.

So it looks like Bobby needs to step up his game for junior day too. Is it justthat they don’t have the money for a few extra uniform sets & helmets with dark visors ha going around for this purpose? Do we need a go fund me campaign started?

Ps. This is a Sirmon. Pssst... Bobby.

Edit: we have a 2021 QB. Never mind, none of this is going to happen.

CBs are hard to recruit....DT are hard to recruit.... blah blah. Heard this for 3 years yet other schools seem to do it . Pretty soon they need to try something different or just keep expecting the same results

CBs aren't easy to recruit. Give them more time.

Well then why do the cats get at least 2 3-star CB's in every recruiting class? Hell, they got the 2 highest rated CB's in the state of Oregon.. we need to pick it up with recruiting this position.
