Why are the Griz skipping the bye week to play Sacred Heart?

This is accurate. And historically we haven't played well coming out of byes. Interestingly, I recall either 2008 natty run, or 2009 years did not have a bye. We played 14/15 straight games one of those years.


I also don't mind the idea that the dept is taking advantage of the calendar, and making a good financial move.

As also mentioned above, this is a fairly low risk game. Kids can always get hurt and games can always be tighter than expected, but likely scenario is we can get to our depth relatively early in the game.

2008 we had a week 1 bye. We started 4-0 and got beat by Weber in Ogden. Then won 10 in a row before losing to Richmond in the Natty.

My memory could be failing me here, but weren't the Griz scheduled to play at Missouri State? They canceled the game because they're moving to FBS this year.

Correction - Griz were scheduled to play at Missouri State on 9/19/2026, not this year.

Correct. One of the reasons we had to schedule a game at the last minute. Took bye week 1 to get another home game. Weren’t a lot of other options.

They play every weekend From September 6 to November 22.

But they wouldn't have to cancel the CWU game, they would just need to have a game the previous week.

Isn’t it the same for FCS as FBS where you are limited to 12 regular season games (for now) and only specific ways you can get that 13th game like playing Hawaii?
