Why are the Griz skipping the bye week to play Sacred Heart?

I was looking at the schedule and while its is favorable for the Griz with 8 home games, isn't the bye week sometime in October like kind of important? Seems weird to fill that in with another home game, especially when 5 of the previous 6 Saturdays will have Griz home games, with the week before being Homecoming against Cal Poly. Just feels like tempting fate and that fans might be a little tapped out and the team might have depth concerns pretty early.

Maybe this is just meeting a contractual obligation we had with Sacred Heart that they are making us fill now that they're independent, and another home game is great in that fall weather but 12 straight weeks in a row sounds rough.

One benefit might be to get redshirt kids some time. They can play in 4.

Technically Aug 30 is the bye week. They are starting a week or two later than everyone.

yeah if you're doing the "technically" BS we don't have a bye week.

It's definitely too late at this point but I'd rather have canceled the CWU game and moved the Sacred Heart game to the opening game of the season giving us the 18th off and a full D1 schedule.

As mentioned definitely going to be some instances where alot of our backups will have to get experience, staying healthy is my biggest concern.

But they wouldn't have to cancel the CWU game, they would just need to have a game the previous week.

They’re doing it to piss you off.

A possible positive of having your first game the same weekend (Week 2) that a couple teams (Kickoff/Week 0 participants) will be playing their third game while pretty much everyone else (normal Week 1 starting teams) will be playing their second game is UM can go harder in Fall Camp since they will have that extra bye week time between camp and the start of the season.

Our bye week is week 1. Bobby doesn’t like bye weeks. You can go ahead and ask him. He is such a psycho about every week being the exact same that he hates not playing during the middle of the year. He doesn’t value a week to rest. He will openly talk about this. Had to have our bye week 1 to get an extra home game.

This is accurate. And historically we haven't played well coming out of byes. Interestingly, I recall either 2008 natty run, or 2009 years did not have a bye. We played 14/15 straight games one of those years.

I also don't mind the idea that the dept is taking advantage of the calendar, and making a good financial move.

As also mentioned above, this is a fairly low risk game. Kids can always get hurt and games can always be tighter than expected, but likely scenario is we can get to our depth relatively early in the game.
