Who Will it Be ?

Last season started with evaluation of at least two qb's. Both learning and growing, and both new or newer to the system. Most on the board were saying that UM had to figure out which qb would become the starter, or how the rotation would work. The coaches said that too. It's isn't weak coaching to be working with and evaluating newer qb's to see who is most prepared to lead the team. The qb's were showing, or not showing, their game stuff, and learning/developing (as McDowell did most of the season).

NAU was winless, but ended up . NAU often gives the Griz at game at Flagstaff. NAU lost only 3 games after they beat the Griz. SS, PSU and MSU. Losing to SS and MSU wasn't a big deal. Two of NAU's early losses were to Arizona and North Dakota. Griz nation assumed NAU was pathetic, which they weren't, and grossly over reacted to the loss.

UM went with McDowell after NAU and that worked out very well. UM also made changes on the o-line, including reducing the spacing.

In my view, the coaching was good before NAU, and terrific after NAU. Pease or whomever coached McDowell along did a terrific job. It's too bad McDowell left. I think he could have gotten better this season. He's physically talented and knows how to pick up third downs. He's not a great thrower, but he was usually good enough and didn't throw many picks (4, I think).

UM seems to have excellent talent and potential at qb this season. We shall see. Hopefully, the o-line gets off to a faster and better start than last season, and hopefully we don't loss one of our top guys, like we did last season.

P.S. I liked Wolf's above summary.

I am not a gris fan but if I was I would hope that whoever is playing qb by game 2 knows what they are doing. The gris constantly bring in transfer qbs and this typically causes early season struggles. While UND is tough it would be a rough loss and could hurt early season morale. All I’m saying is the game 2 qb or qbs better have their stuff together. There is no doubt the gris defense will be strong and the skill players have talent but with no qb the offense could hurt (like last year).
Damn. I hadn't thought about the possibility of an offense not being as good without a good QB. Have you submitted this take to the NFL Network? They'd probably offer you a contract on the spot for this cutting-edge stuff. "Local man cracks the football code; more at 11."

Dude if anyone should be worried about their qb, it’s the bubba-rooskies.
Mr Fine Wine Merlot has not made it through a full season yet, and recall how hard Coach Sixx ran him into the ground against the last FBS team in the opener. He had like 20-some carries vs OSU. He will likely get close to 30 vs New Mexico, not even god knows why

because the scats coaching sux. I remember when everyone wanted houseparty fired for the dui but I was saying I hope they never fire him....wish he was still there...along with Willie mac guzzler....

It kills me every time a cat fan or someone says something like “you could struggle early in the year with a new QB, and then you’re going to be in trouble”.

Oh yeah? You mean like looking bad against weak OOC teams and then losing to a team we have no business losing to? Shit, if that happened, we’d be completely screwed. No way to salvage the season there.

The staff will make a very appropriate choice at QB. They study film, watch attitudes, watch how they operate under pressure, look at personal throwing skills, and general decision making. There are other criteria that i don't even know. This I know, all potential starters will be closely observed and critiqued.

One thing that I like: We have depth at the position. Because of this, the position should remain strong if injuries occur.

I would appreciate if you added in the rushing stats for that game and to be fair that was week 3 in his first season where he wasn’t on special teams… like what do you expect. But in more seriousness I believe Tommy won’t be running as much and qb2 assuming it is Reed looked solid and Vigen has even said he can do stuff that Tommy and Chambers couldn’t do (air it out). Hell I’d go on a limb and say that Reed at qb could help the offense as it would become a little more dynamic… but I’ll take one of the best FCS qbs anyways.

I think an early season loss could hurt playoff implications especially if the momentum never gets turned around, very theoretical though, but not every team magically switches a qb and it changes their whole offense.

Plenty possible to be a good team without a talented qb. Heck the bobcats have had an NFL linebacker and running back at qb and done pretty well.

“Yes, youre right, but have you considered if the situation was different in a way I made up in my head that’s bad?”

Personally I think they only way we make a deep playoff run is if fife is the guy this year, does it happen we will see but I think he has the potential to make it all click and work once real practice starts.

If not then ah yay is the man but I think Ah yat will get his time and is the Griz qb of the future and that will be after this next year after he plays a bit more here and there this year. Personally if he plays a lot this year I think we will see a lot of growing pains, which is good also as he will get better but I don't think that will lead us on a deep playoff run

As for hout I def think there is something there but I also think there is a decent gap between him and fife and ah yat.

I like this subject though as we get all kinds of good, bad, random, funny, and egriz at its finest opinions
Huot is by far the better passer than the rest. That much is obvious.

My observation:
Less than four weeks before Fall Camp, and the trolls are out in force. It's not even State Fair time. Fourth of July is barely behind us. Two months of high temps await.
I had hoped for more peace and reasoning at this point, but the Pollyanna in me gets kicked in the gut, yet again. This, despite banning Growler, a-again. Stifling dissent just makes eGriz a different color of BN.

Don't like what you read, don't bitch to the mods or Chris, DON'T READ IT! No GD wonder people have stopped posting to this site.

It starts again.
