Until an official announcement is made, I will continue to hold out hope for Pease or Hauck. If it is Stitt, I will have to just remain neutral. His 1st press conference will be when I start to form an opinion one way or the other.

Never judge Jell-O until it forms. Obama gave some sweet speeches but has had an epic fail as Prez, just saying.

I hear you there. Unfortunately, myself and many others, know very little about Stitt. Even on egriz, all we know is, he is an offensive guru. That really is not much to go by. So for me, it will be gradual learning to form my opinion(s).
Totally reasonable! Honestly, a great response IMO, for what that's worth. All I'm saying is that if he was coming here with all his own staff, I would be concerned. That APPEARS to be not the case. IMO, again, it allows him to focus on what he specializes in, offense. I think with what we have coming in and the type of O he runs, it could be awesome! If some of this staff stays on like others report, then it's a plus for everyone. We need a really good OC, it's glaring. With this talent, it's been underutilized IMO, again. I see a kid like Pflug and Sims in the line and I'm loving the possibilities.
I think you're correct and probably better at even reserving your judgment. I see what UNH gave to Oregon. What Central Ark gave to Auburn. Let's just give him a chance....an honest one...that's all I'm asking from Griz Nation.

Well said. If he keeps Gregorak, the only thing I hope he challenges and expects Ty to add better nickel and dime packages, and a little more aggressiveness. Other than that, I will be fine if defense is 100% Ty's to handle. I also feel Ty would be in line to be our next head coach when and if Stitt moves on. :thumb:

I'm with you on that. I also want to hear what the players say when spring ball rolls around and what the recruits say. Then its time to form an opinion one way or the other.

Also UNLV is Division 1. Don't know if you knew that.
:coffee:

Apples to Oranges. You compare a team and a coach to their peers.
Yeah..... no.

OK. Put School of Mines in the Mountain West and you get an 0-12 team. Put UNLV in the RMAC and they are D2 national champs. So....yeah. You compare a team and coach based on who they play with similar size schools, talent, and coaching.

The same UNLV that squeaked by Northern Colorado? Hmmm.

Stitt i think will incorprate a whole new look in r offense, aggressive,, he seems to definetly eliminate the 3rd &long situations in his playbook, u do that in yer attack & its a fukin long day for the other team even if yer D is avg...

I'm a bh guy; give me special teams, defense and halftime adjustments. Those that point to his record at unlv...what are reasonable expectations at unlv? He took that program to a bowl game. Some point to his character. A dick who won 80% of his games...works for me. Felt he sold out and abandoned the program? That's how this works! It's called career trajectory. Recruiting? He can still point to a half dozen current nfl players. Didn't win the big game? James Madison had a stud defense, Richmond dline was impressive, and the qb from nova was special. Were we favored in any of those? He also won several big time playoff games. 2009 alone was legendary.

Hauck isn't perfect but he's proven. The argument about new blood is valid. But bobby can ball and a highly motivated, ready to prove his success wasn't a fluke, pissed off hauck is the coach I want. Go griz

That same question could probably be asked about Mines...

They have at least a 35 yr tradition of winning. When there was NAIA Division I and II, they had very good seasons in I, while the Frontier was in II.

Are you talking about CO Mines?! Because your assertion runs very counter to this research done by Potomac Griz, and a CO newspaper calling them the worst college football team in the nation before Stitt took over.

Potomac Griz wrote: "First off I'm not advocating one way or another on Stitt. Just going to point out why what he's done at Colorado School of Mines is actually pretty impressive.

While his record may not be the most impressive (same with his playoff record) you have to look at how he turned that program from a bottom dweller (and sometimes mediocre) to a very good program even with the very strict academic requirements for getting in to that school.

Playoff appearances in the past 50 years (not counting Stitt's years): 0
Above .500 seasons in the past 50 years (not counting Stitt's years): 4 (1975, 1976, 1979, 1991)

The 5 years before Stitt? A combined record of 13-41.

Hell, look at the last year before Stitt was hired. They were 1-9 with 9 straight losses to finish the season. The combined score of those 9 straight losses? 418-54

Since Stitt was hired they've been to the playoffs 3 times (and to two "Bowls" it looks like) and had 13 out of 15 years above .500 He basically turned that program around from awful to pretty damn good and did so with a very exciting style of offense & a major recruiting hurdle in the form of academic requirements.

Again, not advocating one way or another, just wanted to point out what is impressive."

Not what I remember when I went to Tech in the early 80s....I seem to recall they won quite a bit back then.

This is another nice little summary of how Stitt helped turn CO Mines around. And set offensive records at Harvard during his one year there that still stand. (But ignore the preemptive hiring announcement, which apparently is incorrect, dammit!)

In light of last night's and today's events: "what in the hells going on out there!!"

Your guess is as good as anyone's. That is the problem, the school has handled this to the point where all we can do is guess. It is a big Stitt storm.

The school has done exactly what they said they would do. It has been the media and the fans that have created all the confusion.

I agree. In my attempt to be cute I failed to mention that my Lombardi quote was in reference to egriz, not to kh. He has done exactly what he said he'd do. Whether u agree with the process is up for discussion.

From Scott Mansch's interview with Dave Dickenson:
A: No scoop. Better to be honest. I am going to call Kent Haslam and hopefully give my opinion on a few guys (for the Grizzly job). Maybe I can help out that way. I appreciate that he called me and I always do appreciate the interest in the state.

Q: Is it important to guys like yourself that the new coach has a Montana Grizzly pedigree?

A: In my opinion I think you want to get somebody who is not as inclined to move. I think it's important to still have some of the roots of your program, and I think there are some good candidates out there who do have good ties to the program. I'm going to say right now that I know Bobby Hauck is unemployed.

Q: Yes, I know.

A: He was probably the best coach that university's had, so I'd be disappointed if the call wasn't made to Bobby. Plus, Tim Hauck's on his staff, and Timm Rosenbach's on his staff. That's some great football people. Now I don't know if Bobby's interested. I know when Bobby left there were some people who were like, we're going in a new direction. Well, I think Bobby had them going in the right direction. I love the Hauck family. I think they're awesome. I also know that Brent Pease has been looking, and Kraig Paulson's been looking. There's some good people right there.

I'm sure Haslam is getting plenty of advice.

Now that U mentioned it I think I will call Kent and tell him what I know about coaches that might work out as the new head coach for the Griz.

I wonder what I might know about hiring the new guy? Hmm... now that I think of it I simply like yelling at the football games and I am damn good at that.

You guys doing all of this speculation on various threads need to step up your spying game a bit. I live in the SE and when a SEC or ACC position opens up the spies are out in force and for the most part are very accurate. The McElwain search at FL is a perfect example. The FL spies knew when Foley flew to Ft. Collins to meet with McElwain and knew who else went along with im and why. When Petrtino was a potential for Auburn sevral years ago the spies even had the registration numbers of the planes going back and forth between Louisville and Auburn and who was on the planes. Even a somewhat secondary search like the DC for UGA last year was not a secret at all--the spies knew that Pruitt was the leading candidate all along and knew when and where the intereviews took place. Surely some of you guys in MIssoula can use your spy training and be able to tell us exactly what is going on--who is flying in or who has flown in and where the AD is flying to and why if that is the case. Exactly when did Stitt interview and where and with whom and the same for Hauck and Pease. I just can't imagine that Stitt for example could come and go in a city the size of Missoula and someone not have a prettry good idea of what was going on. Seriously this thing is going to play out and i think we end up with a HC by mid-week if not sooner. My biggest concern is that our esteemed President nixes KH's recommendation and then we start over. I really think RE wants a second tier program that is out of the limelight. For my money I go with a known entity who has Montana ties and knows how to recruit in the areas we recruit from. Stitt sounds very good on paper but do we take a guy who has been at a lower division school for 15 years with an average record--something just doesn't seem to add up with this to me. But in the end I think KH and hopefully RE will do what is best for the GRIZ.

I disagree that RE "want's a second tier program." If he were to bring in the retired Bob Green then you would be right. Green ain't coming in and neither is MVD. Any of the other Bs and we move forward. Although he drinks wine and not beer or hot damn, he is becoming a true fan and is understanding the worth of a winning program to the U as a whole. He will, however, expect a squeaky clean program which may hurt Bobby's chances, and enhance the other three. Brent, Bo, Bob, or Bobby will all move us forward and RE is on board.

"Squeaky Clean Program" is not just being looked at here but all over college and pro sports. Maybe due to social media but the free pass on behavior for people in athletics at all levels is being looked at very strongly right now outside the sports community and forcing the hand of those inside the sports community in the decisions they make and how they handle issues the come up.
