I am hearing similiar things, that Engstrom and the BOR are not warm on Bobby because of the past. I find it disappointing that head coaches don't get any credit for the hundreds and hundreds of kids that do things the right way. For the people that only look at the bad apples that played at UM during Hauck's tenure, that's too bad because they're basically discrediting the hundreds of kids who succeeded and were model student-athletes under BH, kids like Marc, Kroy, Schann, Tyler Joyce, Cody, Colt, Mike Ferriter, the list goes on and on.

For what it's worth, I'm thinking it might come down to a choice between Pease and Ty.

I'm thinking neither. Don't be surprised if Stitt gets the job.

Hope you are right. The more I have read and watched on him the last several weeks, the more I like him. Especially because I think he would keep several of our promising assistants that in turn will keep that great recruiting class on board.

Just about one hour before EWU game. On radio interview Kent Haslam just said...

"The process is all consuming. For selfish reasons I'd really like to have the decision made before Christmas."

So this might be food for thought for those who maintained the decision was already made.

Hard to say, whoever they're looking at could have been in the works since last December, kind of uncharted waters when you know you're going to hire a coach 2 years ahead of time.

I would hope we don't have to settle for a guy that has ONE career playoff victory in D2....in 15 years even though he is an Offensive Genius....

Oline, Stitt has won more games over the past several years than Bobby Hauck. But, I like most people on this board, rank Hauck as my first choice. Stitt happens to be my 2nd. But be careful about making it all about records, because Hauck's at UNLV wasn't very impressive.

I don't think anybody could have an impressive record at UNLV. Some coaches just fit better at certain programs than they do others. In Bobby's case, he is a better fit at Montana than he was at UNLV.

Absolutely agree, and Hauck is my first choice, but we need to take this same reasonableness and ability to consider context and also apply it to Stitt, who worked miracles at Mines by turning it into a winner despite having inferior talent (it's a total engineering nerd school).

Haslam also mentioned in that interview when asked about what he's looking for in a new coach that he would like an offensive mind. That was his first quality. Secondly, he mentioned that he wanted somebody that was a recruiter that could pull in quality talent with high character. He also stated that previous experience wasn't necessarily a requirement, but I got the feeling that he really is moving toward the offensive mind. That leads me to believe that it might be Stitt as well.

That old familiar dialogue will commence" it will take coach Stitt3-4 years to get his players in place to effectively run his offense." Or this one" I can't believe he is trying to run that offense with the players he has." "Were 6-5...why the hell didn't we bring in Hauck?" "At least Delaney beat the cats."and so on and so on........... :coffee:

Just heard a rumor the next coach is the HC from the Colorado School of Mines. Keeping most of our coaches and bringing a couple with him. Wow. Just a rumor, mind you....Bob Stitts?

Coach Hauck is a very viable candidate for a high profile assistant's position in the NFL or FBS....he is not in any way shape or form interested in coming back to the University of Montana. You can "book it" on so many levels...... and I would hope that current A.D. has enough experience to understand this fact. If not, Griz could be shorted in this selection process and need to immediately engaged a firm to help identify and evaluate potential coaches.

Another great article on Stitt, and how he's adapated his offense to match the abilities of his players. :)

This makes no sense, why would this come down to Haslam having the experience to understand this? If Hauck is not interested, why in the hell would he even apply, interview, and go through the process?

Nonsense. I know personally individuals that Hauck contacted to request that they lobby for him for the job.

Yet an accused foreign male student (was he from Saudi?) supposedly goes free under Engstrom's watch.

That wierds me out. Was there ever a personal name applied to this so-called foreign (Saudi) student? And where was the State Department not subtly involved in all this? Diplomatic immunity? There is no such thing when it comes to criminal behavior, but that's my opinion; others vary, evidently.
