The fans that are proclaiming Stitt is a genius and isn't as successful at CSM as he would be here due to academic standards are delusional....Not one program (FBS or FCS) would hire a marginally successful coach (108-62 career record- 62.5% winning percentage) from a lower level and hope the results will be significantly better at the new job. Point to ONE coaching hire where that worked....

Big difference with Joe Glenn....he had won TWO National Titles at Northern Colorado. Stitt has won ONE playoff game in 15 years.

Try offering a college scholarship to athletes when the only available major at your school is engineering. That is a uniquely challenging situation. But no other candidate for us has been given as much national press and lauded by D-1 coaches as being a visionary.

And Leipold acknowledged that he was able to pull in Div II and even FCS quality players to his Div III school because his location was near a lot of great high school football with relatively few bigger programs competing in that area. So not taking anything away from Leipold, but he himself is in quotes as saying essentially that was getting better players than nearly all his competition.

NO!!! This is a opportunity to select someone with experience at the FBS level NOT DII!!!!

if Still is as great as so many of you seem to think what in the world is he doing at Colorado School of MInes when there are tons of FBS and FCS schools looking for an "offensive genius" like he appears to be. Something doesn't add up in my mind bujt I may very well be missing something. For my money I would get a guy with Montana ties that knows the program and knows the culture of the Griz. That does not mean it has to be a current Griz asst. Hauck, Pease, Gregoriak come to mind

Lubick has the Montana ties and lots of experience at the FBS level, including two years at one of the top programs in the country. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Lubick" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Could I remind you that MSU hired Huse who was a great small college coach (national championship).

That same MSU also hired another national championship coach from a lower division (Earl Solomonsen from North Dakota State).

That didn't work out too well either.

Be patient - avoid bandwagons.

In fact damn near every coach started out below a "head" coach, high school, lower level college etc. Not many (if any) started out as top head coaches. Get a grip people and look for the next good and excellent coach. Not under rocks but look and look smart!

Minor point but....Huse never won a national championship while coaching Jamestown (NAIA) or at any other level.

correct me if I'm wrong....and I know someone will.....but Bobby was not a football coach anywhere...and he got the keys to the cadallac..with no questions asked..but we have a coach...D-II, an innovator of offense...which we missed our chance with Leopold, who in the mold of Don Read, has an offensive mind, vision of an offense that does work, and hopefully will....and I mean will..want to come here in the first place. Did we not take a chance with Coach Reed..who had a vision..and look what that did for the Griz..put us on the map!! Griz pride is what it is...but sometimes you have to look outside the box...alot of the winners in this world came from nothing..but when they got their chance...WOW, did the shine!!

If Stitt in fact gets the job it will be a sign of a failed coaching search with years of mediocrity and empty stadiums ahead.... Nobody can say this was THE GUY when the search was announced. Kent should have had a small list of likely targets to visit with when Mick stepped aside (likely was Baldwin and Viugen). When those two passed, then the work began. My personal favorite was Leipold...with Bobby and Ty right behind him.

Here's three that are working very well: Guz Malzahn at Auburn, Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss and Chad Morris as OC at Clemson

First the admission standards between where Stitt is at and where Joe Glenn was at in Colorado about as different as they are between Yale and UM-Western. SECONDLY, Haslam DID do that. He went to Baldwin, he went to Pease and he even went to Dickinson. Leipold came to us, and then an FBS school offered him and he took it. As garbage as Buffalo is, they're FBS, with an FBS budget and an FBS coaching salary. He wasn't going to choose UM over that. PERIOD. Haslam had a short list, and most of them respectfully passed. So he's moved on to the next short list, that includes Stitt, Ty and BH.

correct me if I'm wrong...and I know someone will...but Bobby wasn't a football coach..anywhere and was given the keys to this program...with no questions asked!! Here we have a D-II coach...with a vision..with an offensive mind set, and has proven that he can win...we would be lucky to get this guy! Coach Liepold(sp) slipped through our fingers....D-III straight to the MAC conference, errrr...coach Kelly...um...D-III to Notre Dame!! You have to admit, the offense of late has been ummmm...predictable...we've had the talent to have very exciting offense's...but no real innovators to use that talent...it would have been interesting to see Pflu coach though, could have been fun to watch, but that was yesterdays news..today is today...do we want fun and exciting wins...or the same ol' run...run....pass that everybdy knew what play was coming next kind of offense?? Coach Reed had a vision...with an offensive mind set, made football fun for the peeps in the stands..hell..won a NC, which brings us back full circle...today, if coach Stitt is our new man in charge, could be fun again!!

Pease & Dickenson were LOOOOOOOOONG shots to say the least. Baldwin was probably < 10% chance he'd move from EWU. I realize Haslam had to try, but we weren't ever getting any of those three realistically.

How many of you that are screaming for an FBS coach would take a 50+% cut in pay to go get "experience" in your profession, with absolutely no guarantees???

Listening.... Listening.....

None of you would. Neither will the FBS guys. If we get a FBS guy, he will be a ST coordinator, or a position coach. He will not have any experience as a head coach.

Come on people. This is Montana. It isn't the promised land. People aren't going to take a significant cut in pay to come here to cut their teeth as a head coach. Lateral pay move, maybe.

Some of you are so f#cking delusional about UM's place in the athletic world it is ridiculous. Open your eyes to the rest of the world....

And I am a Griz fan.

There are, of course, some coaches with FBS HC experience who are either out of work or underemployed. Remember Don Read? Not that I'm advocating that direction, but it is a big hole in your argument.

You're wrong. Repeating run-run-pass over and over again simply does NOT make it true. I've done the research dozens of times....it just is NOT true. It's like an internet Bigfoot. People SAY they've seen it, but it just doesn't happen.

EWU Game Drive Chart:

P/P/P
P/R/R/P
P/P/P/P/R/R/R/P/P/P/P/P/R/R/(FG)
R/R/R/R/P/P/P

P/P/R (Fumble)
P/P/P/R/R/P/R/R/P (TD)

So, 9 of the first ELEVEN plays were pass plays. And 14 of the first 19. Apparently some people just like to bitch.

Pease is being interviewed. Missed his flight yesterday because of the fog. He is obviously still interested....will interview this weekend.

I'm sorry but personally I want a coach who knows the Bigsky, beats the cats, wins conference titles, and can at last make it to the semi's. Stitt seems like a great choice for OC, Tye is already a good DC, and Bobby brings back toughness to the team. I don't want the conversation of Stitt needing 2-3 years to get his people in place. Done that already. If Bobby is still in play and Haslem doesn't hire him IMO we made a mistake. With that said I hope Justin Green is standing on the sidelines with whoever is the head coach.
