Who are UM's peers?

Cheney Community College is fortunate to be in the Big Sky. I doubt they would be asked to join any FBS conference

Why do you have to do that? Honestly from my opinion...all public education is junk in this country. They all, in a general way conform to political bullshit (mostly liberal conformity). When my kids get to college they'll go to a small private liberal arts school where they will learn to think on their own, and I don't care if they have a football team or not!

I've seen many on this thread show off with some sort of rankings crap. I'm in higher education right now, I see it every day...those rankings do NOT matter. Honestly "Cheney Community College" or I'm sure you'll call UNC "Greeley Community College" (Save your breath), and the University of Montana have more in common than note, and that is that they're all part of the same toilet bowl that is public education in America.

NDSU & Montana HAVE TO go after it, that's the problem, neither Administration has the balls to go after them and solicit them and sell themselves to the mountain west. I dont know if it's arrogance or midwest shyness, but dammit get on a plane together, put together a kick ass presentation as partners and walk into the MWC and kick some ass!!

Walk into ESPN, CBS sports, and ROOT and make your case. That is where the TV money for the MWC is and you would have to increase the pie size enough to offset smaller pieces to each current member. There is the hurdle
I just took a look at Air Force for TV games for this season. espn 8 times, cbssn 3 times. Not bad.

Bisonation.....you are 100% correct. It was rare that new business came to me. I had to go after it to be successful.

Not Greeley CC, when I was at DU in the early 80's UNC was known as the University of No Credit.....

Big Sky peers for us are-
WEber, NAU, SSU, UND, ISU

EWU, PSU, S. Utah, UNCo are peers of each other.

Poly, MSU, Davis, are peers of each other.

I don't mean this in a disparaging way at all, but I look at that list and UND is really the only peer. Because none of the Big Sky institutions outside of UM and UND would compete in the MWC. Assuming football is the peer measuring stick. Based on other measures your assessment may very well be accurate.
Put me in the move-up camp though I really don't think the MWC is an option for UM unless there is another round of major P5 conference realignment that poaches some G5 in the future when the current TV contracts are renegotiated. I would love to see the Griz in the FBS and would really enjoy many of the regional match-ups that would create.

I am not sure how we can consider UND a peer to UM when the lowly cats beat them the last two years with a combined score of 92-38. Unless you are only talking academically? If you can't tell the difference between North Dakota State and U of North Dakota, which preschool did you get your degree from?

If you're in the move up camp you probably should learn the difference between UND and NDSU. Unless you're talking University of Notre Dame.

Again, I've said UM should look at a MWC offer if one ever fell out of the sky. However, I can't imagine that UM could finance that big of a move--especially if UM wanted to spend the money necessary to be competitive.
It's all a moot point anyhow; a MWC offer will not come to UM. There are candidates that show the will and desire to vie for any openings that could come and UM is not one of them. So take comfort in your continuing enjoyment of watching UM play in front of 4000 on the road in a conference concocted by and run by the genius of Fullerton.

Agreed. You make your own luck, and UM has made it plainly obvious that they aren't prepared to take the necessary steps to be ready to vie for any future openings.

What do you think UM should be doing to prepare, beyond what it is doing now? Other than planting Money Trees that money would grow on?

Kem, I watch and enjoy the games and the teams on the field. I love the UM home crowd and home games, but I don't watch or care about the crowd at road games, whether I'm watching on tv or in person. I like the competition. I like to watch the development of the Griz and its players. I like to watch some of opposing team's players. I love the playoffs. I love watching sports, whether little kids, high school, college or professional. I've never been to a game that I didn't enjoy. I even enjoy games when my team loses, although not as much as wins. I find it odd that some of you don't seem to be able to enjoy sport, and sports of all levels.

I doubt that many on here ever played harder or were more competitive than I was on the field. I love to win, but I also know that no one wins all its games and losses can be just as important as wins. As I've said before, I believe that how you play the game (and absorb losses) is more important than winning. In my view, how the game is played at levels below FBS is generally better than FBS. The money and demands of FBS, especially the Big 5, and the related culture, has impacted the game in a negative manner, again in my view.

Holy crap. I can't find anything wrong with what you said. I agree with everything and don't disagree with anything. Well, I guess maybe I don't love watching all sports. I've tried to watch a t-ball game before. That was tough.

Did you used to live in Great Falls? I was discussing the Missoula book with my parents over the weekend. We were discussing egriz and my dad said a lawyer by your name had worked with the S in JCCS on some things back in probably the 70's or 80's.

I agree totally. North Dakota and Montana are untapped demographic goldmines for college football. ESPN and the MWC just don’t get it. I guess they just need to see things from the perspective of the NDSU and UM fan bases. I bet that all 1.8 million people in North Dakota and Montana would watch the griz and bison on TV. That would be a TV marketing bonanza.

Save your next argument that both elite programs have national appeal and the viewership would be vastly larger.

Probably not too far off. That's what happens when your fan base is not of the fickle, fair-weather variety, and you're school isn't a glorified vo-tech with no alumni support or interest.

You are an outstanding little guard dog. You must really have a low opinion of the UofM's vo-tech branch campus in missoula.

Indeed. The Diesel Tech program is a joke. At least we have the actual University upon which to fall back. Any news on Shoota's grades? Is he a go for launch in Eugene?

Vernon Adams graduated last Saturday. The first in his family to get a degree.
