Who are UM's peers?

There is a rumor floating around that the NCAA will change the criteria for an FBS moveup from an FBS conference invite to paying a fee for the right to move up. Supposedly Jim Tressel wants Youngstown ST to move up now that he has Pelini, Fullerton wants options now that Idaho is in the BSC, and other schools like Liberty and Jacksonville St might sue for the right to move up. Idaho moved to the BSC with an assurance that
part of the BSC would become FBS. The P5 will favor such a move as it would lower guarantees for them and dilute the G5 more. The NCAA knows it would lose a lawsuit, and Liberty has money to sue.

No way would Wyoming downgrade from the MWC. EWU and Portland St will attempt an FBS transition, as EWU will annouce their Gateway stadium expansiin and Portland St will either go FBS or drop football. FCS doesnt work well in big cities. The FCS will lose its upper third of teams. Idaho St, SUU, NC, Weber, and NAU will probably go to the WAC and the WAC will offer FCS. NDSU, SDSU, and USD will likely be forced to the Big Sky, as the MVC would have better options further south for TV.

"There is a rumor..."
"Supposedly..."
"...might sue for the right..."
"...with an assurance..."
"...NCAA knows it would lose..."
"...will probably go...
"...will likely be forced to..."

God GOD man, you come across as delusional with posts like this. There isn't a SINGLE fact in that entire post.
Facts:

Idaho is now in the Big Sky
Idaho intends to stay FBS even though it will be kicked out of the Belt next season
Youngstown didn't hire Tressel and Pelini to play pattycake with FCS
Liberty has money and badly wants FBS

Put them where the sun doesn't shine. Delusional applies to people when they don't see the signs that things are a changing. Nothing stays the same forever. Deal with it.

Mark my words, Portland State will NOT attempt an FBS transition. Their program is on life support and spending more money on it is out of the question. Portland is a big soccer town and if people want their football fix they follow UO or OSU. Bank on it.

Hey, I see things changing. But dreaming up crazy bullshit to try and build a case for it doesn't help your cause. Other than Idaho being in the BSC--BUT NOT FOR FOOTBALL--and trying to stay FBS the rest of that crap is just pure conjecture.

UM will turn the lights out when FCS football folds. There isn't a decision maker at UM or the BOR, so we are nothing more than followers. When people talk about a community college like eastern Washington moving to FBS before UM, it makes me ill. Very sad.

By acclamation of the know-it-alls on this board, its a proven law of thermodynamics that Dennison and Engstrom would not have any strategic plans, and certainly not entertain thoughts of FBS. So anybody anywhere stating that Montana and the upper BSC will go FBS is just a shear hogwash and sacrilegious. Its like a sacrament of EGriz's collective faith. Gotcha.

Hey, it COULD happen, but do you have ANY proof of any of your claims in the original post? Or is it just wishful thinking?

I think that the Little 5 will be re-structured in a way that makes it easier for schools like UM to fit in. I think they'll do away with FBS and FCS. Maybe the entire BSC (what's left of it will move into that division). A conference with Idaho, Wyoming, UM, NMSU, MSU, NDSU, UND, Poly, Davis, ISU, etc is quite logical then.
So who will do this restructuring that you are talking about? Certainly not the NCAA; they have no clout in structuring conferences and no authority. It has to be the want of the University presidents. Why you think Wyoming has any desire to associate with a bunch of BSC members is not "quite logical." Idaho and NMSU only if they cannot develop better options.

Not after its been up your azz!

Maybe eGriz will believe you that if NDSU and the Griz just ask the MWC, they'll be given a Golden ticket, but sounds like meth addicts to me.

Students who don't qualify would receive a different notification that would admit them into Idaho State University and Lewis-Clark State College as well Idaho's community colleges, said Carson Howell, an analyst with the board. "Now we're potentially looking at hitting all students," Howell said. "We know what the pool is."

Even the state of Idaho views ISU as a second rate institution.

I too saw this is the news... and while I also love internet hyperbole, this statement applies only to the College of Technology.

I think UoI has some unique issues that made their jump (and subsequent predicament) a bit different from a potential UM jump.
1- A PAC12 student can literally urinate on Moscow from their dorm room.
2- closest ID population center is Coeur d'Alene which is virtually a bedroom community of Spokane.
3- Spokane and the inland northwest has WSU to compete with for FB (although Leach's air raid won't be the turnaround the crimson Cougs are looking for to get back to 90's glory. But I digress....) along with the double whammy of Zags BB. There is no room in the market for UoI to draw what's needed for success at FBS FB.
UM doesn't have those very unique problems to deal with. Oh, and this is also why eastern doesn't and never will draw the fans to ever receive an invitation to leave the BSC. Just my two bits

1- I "literally" tried this and its simply not true. Even in my drunken stupor I didn't really believe my piss could go 12 miles. It was fun to try though...
2- Lewiston/Clarkston (Lewis-Clark Valley) is closer but not as large as Coeur d'Alene/Post Falls. It doesn't add up to a lot of people but to the towns and small cities of the Camas and Palouse prairies, U of I is their pride and joy. Another important missing element is corporate support. Boise State has and had it while the Vandals simply can't tout a lot of corporate donors, etc.
3- I agree that geography is probably the spoiler for both WSU and U of I while Montana (and to a lesser extent state) are "the only games in town." Same for Wyoming...

Pretty much thought ISU was a College of Technology...

Oh yeah, I forgot about Lewiston. Of course I usually do until I drive down that hill and catch a whiff.... :-)

UM lists ISU as a peer institution... you're in good company.

Side note: U of Idaho, According to a friend of mine, a grad of Boise State, there is no place to stay if you go to a game in Moscow.

That's probably true...not a lot of hotels in Moscow although I would guess most of the attendance is students and fans within easy driving distance who aren't spending the night.
