Where's Coach Stitt's offense?

Sam A. Blitz said:
They simplified the offense significantly yesterday. I like Chalich, but the reason he was backup was because Stitt could utilize much more of his offense with Gus.

Luckily for us, the soft part of our schedule is coming up and Chalich will have some time to develop, get more live reps, and prove that he can operate the more complex sets by the time November roles around.

Stitt will be fine.

Thanks guys for not allowing this thread to get prematurely derailed. Good discussion. I think Sam makes a good point. with a new QB, who has even more limited playing time in this offense than the former #1, baby steps probably need to be the rule for a little while. It seems to me that Coach Stitt is reducing the predictability factor by having a lot of different guys touch the ball, which I like. I have high hopes for this offense in the future. For now, I'm satisfied with making progress and finding ways to win.

Very good original post. No players in motion at all yesterday, same formation all game, and no passes across the middle and no crossing routes at all and way too many receiver screens. Every time nau showed blitz we audibled to that screen. I realize chase scored on a screen but it is so predictable that we will run the screen on second down inside the ten after a run on first down. I have a bit of concern when I see how many yards and points EW and MS are putting up, hopefully we are hitting on all cylinders after the next 4 games before we play EW.

Good point JL regarding EWU and MSU offenses, with that said, those offenses will have a very difficult time preparing and executing against the GRIZ defense. Ty is starting to use a few players as chess pieces. Do you honestly believe both offenses can put up over 30 points against the GRIZ defense, if the GRIZ offense is efficient? I honestly believe the GRIZ defense is very capable of limiting and minimizing the impact of those offenses.

Speaking of defense, kudos to Gregorak and the defense, this NAU game was the 1st 1 under Gregorak that NAU did not kill our defense with the off balance set. NAU's off balance sets have killed the GRIZ defense the past few years, not this season! Gregorak has learned his lessons the last few years. The defense also better defended Cal Poly's option and limited NDSU's offense better than last year. Those are encouraging signs on the defensive side of the ball.

one of the most concise threads i have read on egriz..........great job of covering this subject using perspectives and observations of all 4 previous games

with the bold quote above, i agree.........to stay with EW and MSU we will need to achieve excellent TOP and 80% (4 out 5)red zone TD's. i believe these games will be scored in the high 20's-low 30's by us and them.
I tend to agree with others that our offense will continue to improve in all areas over the next 4 games (I have great respect for Stitt's abilities to provide us with that scenario)

I think 1 things for sure, our offense should be efficient against those two teams. The next 4 plus the bye should get it rolling.

When you install an offense that is new to perhaps every single player on the field you can't dump the whole playbook on them. You need to see good fundamental execution of the base plays and that isn't happening right now as noted by most. Good snaps, solid blocking, QB seeing more of the field, receivers catching balls that hit them in hands (BTW this was a definite improvement vs NAU) will enable him to install more stuff. Patience, patience.

The offense isn't that bad, in fact, the Griz are ranked third in Big Sky in total offense. We are far better than the last couple of years. Our problem is scoring touch downs. We finish way to many drives with field goal attempts. We have attempted 11 field goals this year, nearly double anyone else in the conference.

We had an opportunity to bury Northern Arizona in the first half but couldn't get it in the end zone. If we can get that fixed, we will have a very good year.

The drop off between 2nd and 3rd is significant.

Can't disagree with that. At least our last drive was a thing of beauty.

Sit back and enjoy the ride. It is going to be a rollercoaster this year. My expectations for this season are lower than some with a great deal of hope for the future. This is the first season of a process that will lead to big things in the future. I, like many others, are hoping things will click with the QBs and the line, especially center. We may still have a great season but the big rewards will start next year in my opinion.

1. the "shut up" response to a reasonable questin was offensive to many of us. 2. the defense did a superb job. 3. the problem w/snaps is being addessed. 4. with a No. 2 prepping for his first Stitt start the play list was appropriately pared, and I would expect more diversity at Cal Davis

Bingo Bingo Bingo and Bingo. Stitt takes his playbook and adapts to the talent at hand and the Egriz Pontiff's complain.

We don't throw to the middle of the field as defenses main emphasis is to take that away. The last 3 defenses are the same as we will see the rest of the season. Nickel, cover 2, safeties deep. If we had scored touchdowns instead of field goals that might have changed. I believe they feel if they can keep Henderson and Jones out of the end zone they will take a chance in the red zone of holding us to a field goal.

You guys need to chill. When he gets players to fit the schemes things will be good. The key is a qb that can run his offense plus a good ol. The defense is really good. Good things are coming!

One thing I noticed was that the overthrows downfield down the sideline were incomplete passes. When Brady overthrew his receivers in the middle of the field it often resulted in INTs. In fact, when Jamaal fell down and Chalich threw his pick - it was over the middle of the field.

I am getting sick of hearing this getting players for his scheme. Henderson and Jones are two of the best receivers in the nation, just get them the ball as much as possible! If we can't get wins with the guys we have, how could he possibly find guys that are better? I see too much focus on getting number 5 the ball, he cannot break tackles. Did anyone see what happened when Jamal caught a screen, he ran through a tackle and broke another as he was heading out of bounds. Huge difference between him getting it and chase

SHUT UP ????? REALLY????? Guy asks a serious, and I thought reasonable question, and the very best you can come up with is a RUDE, CHILDISH, and IGNORANT SHUT UP?????????
Really. Is no one allowed to criticize anymore? The only thing that didn't digress as the game went on yesterday was the running game. This offense is very easy to figure out. When they went to the run game the O-Line played better and it was effective. Should I shut up for saying that?

I actually liked the SHUT UP answer as well......game 4 brand new coach and we already have people on here...ohhh this isnt working.....wheres this..wheres that? Maybe Stitt used a little more vanilla offense this week to reduce the dumb mistakes we had been making...and obviously it worked. All that matters is that we win. Maybe Stitt realized that against NAU..this week...this was what was neccesary to win.....I realize thats actually giving the coach credit and all but.......he deserves it.

Stalled drives and field goals is what i saw a whole lot of? Defense won that game, they looked a lot better this week. Like I said when Gus gets back it'll get rolling again, Chalich sucks we need that Billings West boy slingin the rock around the yard.

Chalich gets his first start and its a win yet he "sucks"? Unreal. Not even credible enough to rise to the level of armchair QB'ing. What you got in that peace pipe Chief?

Yep. In his first start, Chalich goes 29/45, 279 yards, 1 TD and yet he sucks...

It's snoozing
