Fugggggggggggggg. Well. At 3 am that morning I was sitting in the Missoula Airport waiting for a shitass charter flight to the game that never left Texas because of fog in Missoula. I watched the game at Reds I believe. My only recollection was that Super Dave looked horrible all game until the final drive...

I don't really agree that Dickenson looked horrible. The Herd's D was far better than anything the Griz saw all year and they really got after him and caused him problems all day. If he had the time to throw the ball he probably would have looked a heck of a lot better.
Marshall's coverage was very tough; DD had to throw several balls away. Having lost Gragg to graduation the year before was a big difference. DD was sacked 10 times, but still drove Marshall nuts with his scrambling and clutch throws. When he really needed it he went to Erhardt. They had an All-American DE that was almost unblockable. Marshall brought a different level of defensive speed than we had seen. Fortunately, our D matched them; our LB play that day was just unbelievable.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I remember it. I will have to go back and watch it at some point. Been a long time.

Student at UM. Watched it alone in my basement of my house on South Avenue. Couldn't stand to be around anyone until the game was over. Then went to meet the team at the airport, then went to Bodega and remember nothing else after that.

Honestly, I don't even remember. I was living in Phoenix, having moved there a couple years earlier after getting out of the Navy. Probably watched it at Dukes, but really can't recall...

Top floor of Aber hall watching the game will 100+ other students. I didn't really care for football before that season. Watched/listened to every season after that.

Charter to Huntington out of Great Falls. We had to wait for a couple of hours at a party set up at the airport. Once airborne I had to use the restroom which was near the cockpit. I really had to go after drinking for hours. I persuaded the stewardess to back the refreshment cart up so I could go. I never sat down the rest of the flight. I played steward the whole trip handing out wine, beer & peanuts. One of the stewardesses sat in my seat and drank my Hot Damn. Arrived in the early morning hours only to get up very early to get on a bus and travel to the tailgate. Marshall fans thought they were going to kick our butts. After the game they were awesome. Gave us drinks and wanted to trade our Griz coats for Marshall coats. More drinking and then back to the airport. We were one of the last charters to leave. The flight crew had put up signs all over the plane that said "Thundering Turds". I'll always remember the pile of garbage before you went through security. Partied on the trip back. I won the big pot on the board game. My buddies drank most of it up. Arrived back in Great Falls about 10:30 p.m. All of that happened in 24 hours. I will never forget that trip. I to have the picture mentioned above matted and mounted in our tv room along with the one from 2001. Awesome game and one I will always remember.

Section 103 at Marshall University Stadium, watching the Thundering Herd attempt a 75 yard FG on the last play.

When that kick split the uprights

Well, that's being rather generous. 8-)
Exactly; from our angle I couldn't tell until the ref's arms went up; close to the left standard. We went nuts. Made for a pretty quiet stadium.

From my view in section 103 I didn't know until I saw the refs signal FG!!!

I wasn't on that plane also. :rip:

Wow! I probably know you guys because it's the same trip I wasn't on. I recall a different charter flight wasn't able to land in Missoula that night either but landed in Helena (I think) and so they bussed those folks from the Missoula airport over to catch their plane to the game - I gave someone on the bus the sign I had painted. From what I heard - that charter arrived right at kickoff. As for me, I was extremely depressed and had a horrible headache over the whole deal. But the depression and headache began to fade as the game started and of course totally disappeared at the end when the kick split the uprights (90/10 is still a split).

At the game. Went bar hopping the night before. I believe last call there was 4:00 a.m.. No matter what bar you were in you could yell out "Montana" and you would get a big yell of "Grizzlies" from somewhere in the bar. Also remember being packed into the stadium and people very close to passing out because we were so hot. The Montana crowd dressed for a normal December game, but it was like 50 degrees. Which was followed by free beer for everyone thanks to Denny W.

I was at Cosco in Kalipell watching it on a big TV with a bunch of other dudes. Kept the piece by going out shopping and still got to see the game. Just think now we can watch on our phones! How the times have changed!!

I watched the winning chipper at the Univ Sports Bar & Grill in the U District=Seattle with my buddy (John Dolecki) the owner on a ridiculously small (by today's standards) tv. We were both deleriously happy, just maybe a little drunk, and hugged the crap out of each other....likely my greatest Griz memory to date. :D

I was out of school 2 years and at my brother's house who is a cat fan. Once the clock hit zeroes, I flipped him off and told him I don't want to hear about the cats winning in 1984 and the griz not having a national championship.

We must have been rubbing elbows then! Same flight, crazy time, getting into Huntington with weather on approach, my 10 year old son with me for his birthday present. He was a good chaperone in keeping me responsible for a change. The best time, especially post-game. Coach talking, "Now there's just one"! Marshall fans showed us what it's all about, win or lose. Next year….was there too, not so much fun playing Randy Moss. WIthout him, I really think we would have had 2 in a row. It's been a long time coming since 1995 and 2001. Those were the days, especially with Dave, that we always knew the Griz would prevail. That expectation has played into the present which is why Griz Nation is the way it is. I wonder if we'll see those days again?

Was 49, sitting in the bar at Montana Hanna's in Dean, Montana with my first wife. (Between Absorokee and Nye) I remember the feeling of "OH MY GOD, WE ACTUALLY DID IT !! Then sitting back and thinking again "OH MY GOD WE DID IT !! Took a few days for it to seem real, but my oh my what a great feeling it twas.

I was at physical therapy in whitefish. Dave ( therapist ) borrowed a TV from North valley hospital and we watched it while I worked out my leg. That was an amazing game. What was also amazing is how many people became GRIZ fans that day. Good memories. Thanks to all that have shared theirs.

Agree also with whoever said "without Moss, we'd had back to back chippers".

Where were you 20 years ago today? December 16, 1995?

Griz beat Marshall for their 1st National Championship.

I remember the day, just through the end of the game, and then everything gets fuzzy, then black.

Very fuzzy indeed! Amazing how fast 20 years has gone by!! :thumb:

I was at a friend’s home south of Woods Bay, east shore of Flathead Lake. We had a bunch of Flathead Lake Biological Station staff, faculty and graduate students watching the game. I was definitely happy for UM’s success that day but still pissed that they had clobbered EWU that year.
