14 seed vs New Mexico

That would be just fine with me.

not to sound like i'm talking trash but i have to ask WHY?! UNM has won 9 of their last 10 games and won their 2nd staright conference tourney. they have great size and athleticism. an they have one of the best coaches in the country who for what it's wprth won't be around much longer. and with all due respect, they'd beat the griz handidly. i can see many matchups that would benefit the griz but playing new mexico is not one of them...

I would prefer someone other than New Mexico, but no matter who the Griz draw, it's going to be an uphill climb at the best. It was a while back, but I caught a clip on Alford and other open jobs and he said that he is really happy at UNM...then again, all coaches would say that right up until the time they get hired elsewhere.

I know you, and have read your posts, but I will divulge.

It doesn't matter who the Griz draw, they will be behind the 15 ball because of lack of size and inexperience in the post. The Griz get into spurts where they are 3 happy and that will either cost them or blow out the opponent. Why UNM? I watched their last 2, well parts of them, and I think it will be a good game. I am not a fancy-dancy basketball guy, I know almost nothing about most things, other than I will watch and root on the Griz and I would like to see them beat UNM because they lost last time they played...if memory serves.

i agree that as a 13-15 seed it's always going to be an uphill climb. no matter who you face you'll be the underdog. but college hoops, especially at this time, is all about matchups. the griz would not matchup with new mexico at all. i'm excited to see the brackets tomorrow!

i know what alford said and i think he is happy. but the simple truth is way more money is about to be offered to him and i won't be surprised to see him leave.

but new mexico is real good. i could see them in the sweet 16.

have we met?! :o

i agree with you. i was just asking because i think new mexico is a very good team that um would really struggle with. i can think of several teams the griz could potentially face that i think they could beat and new mexico isn't one. that's all i was saying.

congrats on once again representing the conference. hopefully i see the cats do that again before i'm 40....

Its interesting to see where Davidson and SDSU are predicted to land, as I see those as teams the Griz were pretty competitive against. They are both predicted to land in the 12-14 range, though I did see one prediction with SDSU as a 16 and the Griz as a 13 on the same bracket. CSU looks like they'll land in the 5-6 range.

Seems like the Big Sky champ historically draws a team from the Mountain West or PAC 12, or a Big 10 or Big 12 school.

Since 2001, the Big Sky champ has drawn Kansas, Oregon, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Washington, Nevada, UCLA, Kansas, Xavier, New Mexico, San Diego State, Wisconsin.

Given this pattern, Michigan State or Michigan, Kansas State, UNLV or New Mexico, or Arizona seem to be the logical draws for the Griz int eh first round. Other possibilities are New Mexico, Miami, Florida and Ohio State.

But I'll stick with it and predict Michigan State.

I think I met ya last year. Maybe not.

Lunardi's bracket was made before Stephen F Austin lost. If you go by RPI, the Griz have the 2nd-highest among the 14-seeds, so I really don't see them dropping to a 15.

-13-
52 Bucknell (Patriot League)
57 New Mexico State (WAC)
59 Valparaiso (Horizon League)
62 Davidson (Southern)
-14-
63 South Dakota State (Summit League)
76 Montana (Big Sky)
82 Northwestern State (Southland)
94 Harvard (Ivy League)
-15-
96 Florida Gulf Coast (Atlantic Sun)
101 Iona (MAAC)
103 Pacific (Big West)
128 Albany (America East)
-16-
154 Western Kentucky (Sun Belt)
173 LIU-Brooklyn (Northeast)
-16/17-
182 Southern (SWAC)
185 James Madison (CAA)
214 North Carolina A&T (MEAC)
289 Liberty (Big South)

The Griz have great perimeter offense, play solid D and have an awesome duo driving to the basket ...what they don't have with Ward down is the strong aggressive play you saw in Tresnak and Otis last night under the hoop. Hutchison is adequate, but frosh Martin right now is out of his element...lack of awareness in receiving the ball inside and suspect hands. That spells trouble for the River City team regardless of who we play IMHO...

You're right, and we've known that all season. The three-point shot is the great equalizer in college basketball. We will need to shoot lights out to advance.

I recall a game against a South Dakota State team this year that went into double overtime. This same SDSU team went into the pit and beat the Lobos. So to say that we will get beat easily is an overstatement. It would be a competitive game just like the last time they played. Frankly, I think we can play with just about any team in the country outside of the Big Ten. I think playing Arizona is realistic, and frankly if we can get hot we can compete. I see a 13 or 14 seed and a competitive game.

Weisner and Gregory are looking very good from there. More 3's for them. Less for Cherry, and more penetrating by him to find them. Coleman hits that 3 consistently too I am really liking everything Jamar does offensively.
