What's our rank tomorrow?

We will be ranked #15. There were 5 losses below us. They seem to never consider anything else, except losses!

My answer when this was posted was "No. 20" because here it is tomorrow and we're still No. 20. On Monday, we may be 15. A little lower if some voters get impressed. Should move past the teams highlighted in red, including Wofford, but we'll see.

5. . . . . . LOST. . . . .Villanova, at Boston College, 24-14
6. . . . . . won. . . . .South Dakota State, vs. Butler, 55-14
7. . . . . . won. . . . .Central Arkansas, vs. Incarnate Word, 58-7
8. . . . . . LOST. . . . .Wofford, at Baylor, 69-3
9. . . . . . won. . . . .Georgia Southern, vs. Savannah State, 77-9
10. . . . . idle. . . . .New Hampshire
11. . . . . won. . . . .Towson, at Connecticut, 33-18
12. . . . . LOST . . . . .Appalachian State, at Montana, 30-6
13. . . . . LOST. . . . .Illinois State, at Ball State, 51-28
14. . . . . won. . . . .Cal Poly, vs. San Diego, 38-16
15. . . . . won. . . . .Richmond, vs. Va Military, 34-0
16. . . . . idle. . . . .Stony Brook
17. . . . . won. . . . .Northern Iowa, at Iowa State, 28-20
18. . . . . LOST. . . . .Northern Arizona, at Arizona, 35-0
19. . . . . won. . . . .James Madison, vs. Cent Conn St, 38-14

The thing about the preseason rankings is that they are a best guess, and based off last year. So a #20 ranking is speculation, and with a first week win like we had, and others had as well, the "powers-that-be" can make a better assessment of where teams are. I would say that the rankings won't be truly a representation of the actual top 25 until after week four. After week one, we should be about a 10, but most likely will end up being 15ish.

I think the Griz switch places with the Lumberjacks and are 18...the pollsters never show much love for UM or the Big Sky.

I challenge someone to name 15 teams that looked better than we did yesterday.

NDSU
EWU
McNeese St.
GSU
SHSU
Eastern Illinois

Who else?

In my world (and only having one game to compare), I would also put the Griz above Cal Poly and New Hampshire.

Above Cal Poly because a 24 point win over App State with extra scholarships should be worth more than a 22 point win over a small non-scholarship Pioneer school (the Pioneer League will get its first ever auto-bid to the playoffs this year). Above New Hampshire, because like Stony Brook, they haven't proven they can win yet.

It will be interesting where they put us this week, because like the cat announcers for Max Media said: Montana seems to have been put at #20 because after last season, voters want to see if the hype for the Griz is real first, despite being voted higher by league coaches and media.

In the past, though, this poll seems to just focus on the teams around a team and rank based off recent results and not the season as a whole. That's why (for the most part) you will see a team that started out as #2 and have mediocre wins but be consistent, stay #2 the whole year instead of say a non-ranked team who gets some great wins and works their way up the poll, has a better overall season in comparison, but doesn't leap-frog #2 because nothing extreme happens to them or #2 (like a head-to-head matchup) when they are ranked close together.

13th and 18th 8-)
