What's New @ Stadium?

I'm certainly no insider, but based on some comments I heard and the look of butte's new field, I would guess the color green will alternate from light green to dark green every 5 yards

So something similar to James Madison's turf? If that's true, I'm going to LOVE it. I always wished they would have done the alternate light green to dark green with the current turf.

Well, another Excavator was added, and today they are just about completed on tearing up asphalt and concrete. Real digging might even begin this week.

That's how the FieldTurf is in the softball stadium.

THAT In accordance with Board of Regents Policy 1003.7, the Board of Regents of the Montana University
System authorizes the University of Montana– Missoula to expend up to $500,000 to replace turf at
Washington-Grizzly Stadium
.
EXPLANATION
The current artificial turf at Washington-Grizzly Stadium was installed in July 2008. With seven years of
service, the turf is not wearing well and has created safety concerns for users. This past winter was alarmingly impactful on the artificial fibers, rendering them inflexible. Years of frost heaves have caused the base to lift and subsequently sink on the west side and in the north end zone. As part of regular maintenance, Intercollegiate Athletics planned to replace the turf in July 2017.

However, a number of favorable factors have led to this request.
• The contractor, FieldTurf, signed a cooperative purchasing agreement with the State of Montana
and the Montana University System in January 2015 which guarantees a negotiated price for turf
replacement, eliminating the requirement to bid for services. FieldTurf is the industry leader in
artificial turf and performed exceptionally well with University of Montana’s softball complex and
Montana State University’s Bobcat Stadium.
• FieldTurf will likely be in Missoula this July working on the track project at Missoula County
Stadium at Big Sky High School. At that time, they could remove the old turf, base grade and
install a new and have it complete prior to fall camp for football.
• In consideration of their ability to capitalize on their resources in Missoula this summer, their
concern for the shape of the existing turf and the fiscal affairs of Intercollegiate Athletics,
FieldTurf has agreed to delay billing and expectation of payment until the 1st quarter of 2018.
• Intercollegiate Athletics is planning to spend $10,000 on the existing turf in fiscal year 2017 for
repair and maintenance to minimize field use liability if the old turf remains .

Wow, everything that is happening is just upping the ante. That is a classy looking surface. All of a sudden, the passing fad of blues and reds looks ... very dated.

Is the guy in the excavator picture wearing a hard hat? Anyone who's been to the construction site of the new Champions Center know if everybody is being safe down there? I heard today that the full-court press is now on to get this thing done by next August, and I am concerned that the UM's zeal to get it finished will put the contruction team at risk. I am always concerned about the longterm health and safety of union workers, and have been reading a lot of studies on CTE in construction workers.

My other concerns about this project are, if they fall behind or run into snags, I hope Stitt isn't down at the job site every day chewing the crew out and calling them failures. And, I hope there isn't a division among the steel workers and the interior design crew.

Do you have to troll every thread with this shit? Isn't this something you could have left behind at puberty? Or at least promise to leave it behind when you get there?

Nice...

They are behind. No doubt about it. Perhaps there are places where they can "crash the schedule", but I don't think I'm going to hold my breath for an on-time completion.

Ps. It's always the concrete guys. They f$&King hate everyone.

From April to just about August is quite a setback. It would be a shame if it wasn't completed as the centerpiece for the opening of the 2017 season. It's a reasonably experienced contractor; stay tuned.

A good parent would not let their children go into this kind of work. I believe it's beatable in court.

That Griz flag hanging there is a mere shadow of its former self. Our flags of the past were made of better, Montana-made materials. It's a shame most of the posters here are so pedestrian, they just don't get it.

The UM Baseball Field is the alternating light and darker green. It makes a very high quality presentation.

Would it kill the Mad Scientist to maybe put out a press release thanking the construction guys for their efforts when their work is no longer needed by UM?

#ungrateful
