what worries me most about the scats....

Bobcats 49 - 10 it will not be close ~

* Griz can’t cover anyone this has been a issue all year, has not been addressed all year, and with as good as offense they have “Good night Irene”

* Stick a fork in the Griz they are done! Book it!!!!

Whatever you have to tell yourselves to have that warm fuzzy feeling at least until Saturday.
The truth here is the cats probably have the slightly better team. But anyone that is confident one way or another is delusional, this is cat griz played in Missoula which definitely favors the griz.
You seem kind of sensitive about the whole thing. I find that strange. I felt the same way last year when the Griz were playing in Bozeman. Hostile environment and the team fans make it rough. Cats had an advantage and will always when playing at home. Home field advantage doesn’t make me feel warm, nor fuzzy. It just gives an advantage to the Griz. I don’t think that’s debatable. Now, the Cats having a better team is very debatable. Who have they played and beat. ( don’t say UCD who was depleted with injuries). SDSU? (Oh wait) UCD? NAU in their dome? That’s why I love the game. Saturday will put all this prognostication to rest. If the Cats win in Wa Griz - hats off to them.

What worries me most about the cats?

  • Their defense has been pretty lights out. They do a great job playing base defense and relying on their players to be assignment-sound and make individual plays.
  • They have consistently been able to stop/limit the run without needing more than 7 guys in the box.
  • Their secondary players are really, really good. We are going to have to make a lot of contested catches if we can't find ways for our guys to get separation.
  • Their pass rush with 4 guys has been consistent, even if not overwhelming. If they can get pressure with 4 guys, it's going to be a long day for us.
  • They have the #1 punt and kickoff return guys (statistically) in the conference. We feasted on good field position in '21, and we cannot allow them to have short fields.
  • Contrary to what I thought would happen, their rushing offense is only a little bit worse than what we're used to seeing. Calling it now, if they rush for more than 200 yards, we're going to lose.
  • Justin Lamson is the most efficient passer we've played all season. He hardly ever makes mistakes. Goes with the last point, but if he doesn't have to pass the ball more than 20 times, we're going to have a long day. We need to make him as uncomfortable as possible and put the entire game on his shoulders exactly like we did to Matt McKay in 2021.
  • Taco Dowler is our defense's worst nightmare. If he finds holes in our zones or gets away from his man in man coverage, he could score on any catch he makes.
  • Their OL will be the best we've seen since UND, and they've been just leaning on teams, averaging 6.4 ypc in conference play. We have to stop the run. Period.
We will need to play lights out in order to beat them. I'm very worried (shocker, right lmao) and think the home team's streak could be in jeopardy this weekend.

UCD ran the ball effectively against the Cats. Their coach needs his head examined and needs to understand urgency and clock management. The Cats defensive backs are average. If they have to do man against the Griz receivers they will be eaten alive. That doesn’t include using the tight ends. UCD’s QB missed at least on touchdown because he didn’t float the ball to his wide open tight end. Another dropped a pass and they could have gone to their tight ends multiple times. Zone or man the Griz will score. Pease will have new wrinkles in the mix this weekend. Can the Griz defense stop the Cats. If Lamson has to pass under any pressure - he will struggle. Coach Meatloaf will try and run the ball and dominate the line of scrimmage. It’s all the NDSU coaches know how to do. We shall see, but I am not discounting the Griz D, especially if they get guys back from injuries.

  • Their defense has been pretty lights out. [I don't agree.] They do a great job playing base defense and relying on their players to be assignment-sound and make individual plays.
  • They have consistently been able to stop/limit the run without needing more than 7 guys in the box. [I haven't looked, but they aren't stopping Eli et al.]
  • Their secondary players are really, really good. [I don't agree at all. Why don't they get many interceptions.? ] We are going to have to make a lot of contested catches if we can't find ways for our guys to get separation.
  • Their pass rush with 4 guys has been consistent, even if not overwhelming. [Certainly not overwhelming. And the UM OL has been protecting well as the season has gone on.] If they can get pressure with 4 guys, it's going to be a long day for us. [They aren't getting good pressure with 4.]
  • They have the #1 punt and kickoff return guys (statistically) in the conference. We feasted on good field position in '21, and we cannot allow them to have short fields. [I will take the UM return guys any day.]
  • Contrary to what I thought would happen, their rushing offense is only a little bit worse than what we're used to seeing. Calling it now, if they rush for more than 200 yards, we're going to lose. [Their pre-season MVP didn't even start yesterday.]
  • Justin Lamson is the most efficient passer we've played all season. He hardly ever makes mistakes. We need to make him as uncomfortable as possible and put the entire game on his shoulders exactly like we did to Matt McKay in 2021. [He will get scared from the UM pressure.]
  • Taco Dowler is our defense's worst nightmare. If he finds holes in our zones or gets away from his man in man coverage, he could score on any catch he makes. [He's a good player, but hardly a nightmare.]
  • Their OL will be the best we've seen since UND, and they've been just leaning on teams, averaging 6.4 ypc in conference play. We have to stop the run. Period. [Their OL is only pretty good.]

See comments in bold above. Griz just need to play well and consistent, and not make mistakes and have turnovers. Don't need to play lights out to beat the Cats. Jeez, we're playing at home.

I suppose that is fair enough to point out. I am always a little put off by fans of either program that do nothing but sh*t on the other side. I have great respect for both programs and especially the players that lace it up for either side. It absolutely is debatable about which team is better this year. I honestly don't have a strong opinion either way. I just think that the cats have had a bit stronger in conference schedule and common opponents results also say a bit about the teams. But as we have all seen several times strange matchups can happen in cat/griz
I'm going to definitely tip my hat to either team that wins and root for a BSC NC either way.

Appreciate the back and forth, and hopefully I'm worrying for nothing. We can meet up with Elrod and I'll buy you a beer if we boat race them lol

The griz have forced a lot of teams to have to throw the ball since they lead the conference in rush defense which has led to some interesting stats. But that is partly because of their style of defense and it's hard to argue with the results.

I thought my Griz would win the game before watching the cats last night against Cal Davis. Now I am not only certain my Griz will win but I don't expect this one to be close.

Griz 47
cats 20

My thoughts are that the Griz will have arguably the best player for either team returning to play against the cats which should help our pass defense greatly.

My biggest worry is that I have no idea how good this team really is. I’m very surprised the team got to 11-0 and fully expected us to drop a game or two. There’s always this doubt from how the team has played that we are something of a paper tiger, and I am going to be riddled with anxiety all week. Bobcats are penciled in as a loss until proven otherwise for me, and I have Bob Stitt to thank for that.

We know nothing and not sure what this game shows us either way. I do know that this team found ways to win, when past teams would have folded. It might be their defining quality as a unit. Time will tell.
